    neck of the woods

Post by New England Ram on Mon 23 Jan 2012, 8:02 pm

I grew up in a really rough part of town. The local yobs used to cover me in chocolate & cream and then put a cherry on my head....
Life was tough in the gateau.

A small boy swallowed some coins and was taken to a hospital.
When his grandmother telephoned to ask how he was a nurse said 'No change yet'.

The lights were too bright at the Chinese restaurant, so the manager decided to dim sum.

Posh b*gger. We didn't have a bath to get out of. Our mam used to take us down Queen Street baths once a month.

Tell that to kids today and they won't believe you.

We used to have a bath. It was a zinc one that we kept in the cellar, and dragged up on Friday nights, and filled with hot water from the copper boiler. Emptying it was a real pain.

And since I was the youngest, I got to bathe last, and had no idea what was on the bottom of the bath. I often felt I came out dirtier than when I went in.

    Ah the good old days.

If I remember right, that was the duty of Jeeves in our household, cept for he had to drag it from the west wing as the house staff lived in the cellar

I was from Breadsall, yes. Not Hill Top. Not village. But Breadsall Estate. We had a semi detached coal shed, and a garden (inc lawn) to both front and rear.

The paper squares hanging up on a nail in the (indoor!!!) loo were from the Daily Telegraph, no less!

    Oh.... and a tab at Cotton's! ;)

I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to deny my ultra-posh upbringing, of which I am exceedingly proud!! Thumbs up
