    James Bailey

Post by Barnstaple Ram on Wed 15 Feb 2012, 10:41 pm

It has been said on this forum that our upturn in form coincided with James Bailey's return to the team

I heard someone say last night that he is the player that makes the team tick

I have looked through the seasons games to see if there is any truth in it

With Bailey in the starting line up
Won 10 Drawn 2 Lost 5 (win ratio of 58%)

    Without Bailey
Won 3 Drawn 3 Lost 6 (win ratio of 25%)

There have also been 1 draw and 1 defeat when he has come on as a sub

Maybe there is something in it.

HL will love this one.....I just heard that Mr Bailey is in fact in Mr Cloughs bad books.
So if it is true and it is him that makes us tick...then it could well be that Nigel will again be shooting himself in the foot by playing the grudge card...

Bailey is integral to us I feel and every time I don't see his name on the teamsheet I groan. A more effective version of Hendrick at this moment in time I feel. Bailey has excellent short-range distribution, is always offering himself to take the ball from the defence to spread play and mops up in midfield.

He does the quiet things well so flabbergasted as to how he hasn't made the starting XI ahead of either Hendrick/Carroll.

If this is true it's time NC went to anger management classes,or just fecked off!

Exactly the same as last year, needlessly changing a working formula (back to 4-5-1, no Bailey when fit, putting Tyson anywhere)last year we were fantastic for a few months, then he tinkered with the side and we plummeted. Now our 4 games without a win come after he again tinkered with a side needlessly.

Within a game or so of Baileys return to the team we also had Barker, Green and Brayford return to the team.

It seems your mate has been given a little misinformation Igor. James Bailey has had a groin strain that has yet not cleared up completely after coming back from his ankle injury last November. Nigel is protecting James until he is fully fit rather than be without him for a longer period.

As for the naughty boys club was HL at that forum?

In HL's defence, he has been much less of a WUM of late and has actually initiated some very good threads.

.......... and now on to the subject of the OP. James Bailey.

We used to have this little scrawny lad, officially he's 5'10" but looked more 5'8". Probably weighed about 8 and a half stone and he ran like a girl. If it wasn't for that silly running style you would probably never know he was on the park. However, when he wasn't on the park you saw all manner of little jobs that just weren't being done. That was when you realised how much good work the lad always did.

IMO Bailey is in that mould. I dont think he'll be the player Johnny Mac was but he will be useful.

His job is the easiest one on the park when he plays but he does just not offer enough for me, not a bad player but if we want to progress we need better.

Easiest one on the park? I realise you never played as a DM/CM then? Doing the quiet things well is one of the hardest jobs in football. Anyone can make a thundering challenge and go missing for 10 minutes, not everyone can pick the opposition runs and halt their attacks. Yea he probably doesnt do it enough, but if he did then he'd be playing at a higher level than us. Research shows that midfielders do more running, cover more ground and have more time on the ball than any other players, so how is it easiest?

I'd say Theo's 6 yard job is easier

    Bailey is going backwards.

he offered nothing when he came on v Reading.
his first touch was to hoof it forward. His second touch was to hoof it into touch. where has the quality passing gone?
    hendrick was even worse.
There really is little point packing the midfield with such 'ordinary' players, even to the extent of having no right sided midfielder.
They were so poor I began to think we were missing Ben davies.

Personally I'd play Carroll and Green or Bryson in the middle at the moment.

I was a striker, for a player with any intelligence DM is a doddle. Proper midfield different story.

Couldn't disagree further but there you go (I've played CF, RM, DM, CM just for the record...yes yes, jack of all trades I know)

Xabi Alonso is one of the best DM players in the world and I wouldn't say what he does is a doddle. He does it effectively and quietly though, and that means don't appreciate him till he's gone (ask Liverpool fans!).

Had a flashback there Ammy, the very same argument was used against Johnny Mac. I do think Bailey can/is in that mould.
