    Capital one cup

Post by Ram78 on Sat Jun 02, 2012 9:16 am

DERBY County and Burton Albion's first competitive matches of next season will be League Cup ties.
It has been confirmed that the opening round of the newly-named Capital One Cup – formerly the Carling Cup – will take place in the week beginning Monday, August 13, before the 2012-13 Football League season starts on Saturday, August 18.

The draw for the first round of the cup will be made on Thursday, June 14, with the league fixtures due out on Monday, June 18.
All Championship, League One and League Two clubs will go into the hat, except for the two highest-placed sides in last season's tables – Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers.
Bolton and Blackburn will enter the competition at the second round stage, along with 13 Premier League teams.
The seven Premier League clubs that have qualified for European competition – Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Newcastle United and holders Liverpool – will join the tournament in the third round.
The Capital One Cup final will be played at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 24.
Derby have not won a League Cup match since they reached the semi-final in 2008-09 – losing to Rotherham United, Crewe Alexandra and Shrewsbury Town in the past three years.
Burton are still looking for their first win in the competition since entering the League, though they have taken Cardiff City and Burnley to extra-time in the past two seasons.
Football League clubs have voted to revert back to seven substitutes next season following a joint proposal by the Rams and Birmingham City.
Manager were only allowed to name five player on the bench during the 2011-12 campaign.
The changes were agreed at the League's annual conference in Portugal yesterday.
Derby boss Nigel Clough told the Telegraph earlier this month that he was in favour of a return to seven subs.
"If you don't want to put seven on the bench, you don't have to," said Clough.
"There might be times next season when we don't but it's nice to have that option."

I think I like the sound of this. I'm thinking of visiting family over the summer. A week in Blighty could include a CoCup game and the opening two League games (going on the premise that we'll have a Tuesday game immediately after the season's opener).
