The demise of HMV.....what was the 1st record you bought?

Post by Li 150 on Tue 15 Jan 2013, 3:02 pm

Mine was before the HMV conglomerate high street chain it was

bought in Allenton from a small electrical shop (can't remember the names now) he used to pin singles down the wall by the window & there was something magical about just looking at those singles.
(before this purchase, which I think was 6d, I remember having to go fetch Road Runner by Len Barry for my big bro)

So what's you memory of your first single??

We used to buy old singles on the cheap from a local electrical shop. Not sure what the first would have been but probably something by Slade, Mud or Wizzard.
When I started buying as a teenager it was Top of the Pops by the Rezillos.

I remember doing that, there was a newsagent on the wardwick that used to have a rack with what was called x juke box records.
& the Revillos, what a manic live band they were, I wanted to marry Faye Fife, well do the prenuptials at least ;)

Love me do - Beatle on Parlaphone red label in 1964 from a record shop in New Street Burton, opposite the chippy. Blue painted window frames and I can't for the life of me remember the name of it.
