back in the day when implementing a new cash transaction for a Dutch bank, I came across a good one. I'd had several phone calls with a client who couldn't get his PC to write the data to the 8" floppy disk. The disk had to be, after being written, sent to us to process the payment data.

I gave him all sorts of advice but nothing seemed to work. I asked him to send me the floppy. When I opened the envelope it came in I was, genuinely ROFLMAO.

The old 8" jobs came in a paper cover and the round magnetic floppy itself was protected by a hard cover. The instructions were to remove the disk from its cover. By this the bank meant the paper cover. the client had take scissors to the hard cover, removed the floppy then tried to insert it in the drive :ROFLMAO:

Here's a golden oldie from my days in IT support -

Client- I switched on my PC but it isn't working.
Me- Did any lights come on when you switched it on?
Client- Yes, on the box thing, but it isn't working.
    Me- How about the monitor?
    Client- Is that the screen?
    Me- Yes.
    Client- It's black.
Me- Is the little green light on?
Client- No, I told you it's black..
Me- Is the screen's cable connected to the PC box firmly?
Client (after some huffing and puffing)- Yes - it was a bit loose - but it's still not working.
Me- Is the screen switched on at the mains?
    Client- Does it need electricity?
Me- Yes, it does - could you check the mains plug, please.
Client (after more huffing and puffing)- Somebody must have unplugged it.
Me- These things happen - is it working now?
    Client- Yes.

My favourite screen message (only Microsoft could be this helpful)-
Keyboard not working - hit any key

Typical story that one RRC, I was always tempted, but never actually said it, to say that the cause of the problem lies somewhere between the chair/stool and the keyboard......

.... although I do use it occasionally at school. Always raises a laugh.

Loads of similar stories from the time i worked on a helpline for a 'well known high street computer store that should be avoided'.

    My Pc won't work.
    Anything on screen?
    No
Any lights or sound from base unit?
    No
    Plugged in?
    Can't tell, rooms dark.
    etc. etc.................

    I think you've had a powercut madam.
I know that but I've got wireless.

In my days as landlord of a local pub a new customer came in took a look along the pumps and asked for a pint of Ingrams.

Now to the best of my knowledge there wasn't then and isn't now any beer called Ingrams, so I came around the other side to see what he meant and he pointed out the label.

Which was the pump manufacturers name, not the pump advertising clip
