Good for him. Never had any hard feelings for him, he sucks as a striker but good luck to him. Now the over/under as to how many games it will take him to score again begins.

I hope he scores a hatful for them if it means we can recoup some of the fee we paid for him.

Isn't it funny how former players so often score against their old teans

Did it go in off him? Or did he actually mean it? Poor player by anybody's standards, I'm still not sure how he ever managed to become a professional footballer.

No i dont think so, and this was my point when i was critical of our transfer dealings this summer.

Why sign players who are not as good as what we have, Shotton is another example of this Dunno

If shotton & Best were any better they would be in starting 11 surely.

SM has to shoulder some blame for a very poor recruitment drive during this window.

I think that Best is a little better than Sammon. His heading is infinitely better and he can actually kick a ball cleanly. He's never going to be as good as Martin, but he is better than Sammon.

I'd say the reason that we signed him was purely as cover - and we'd be unlikely to get anyone much better who is happy to sit on the bench. I doubt that we could even have loaned a decent centre-forward as the worthwhile ones would only come the iPro if they expected to play regularly. We could of course have bought a player in who is better than Martin, but I'm not sure we're in a position to triple our transfer record at present.

Best may be slightly better than Sammon but as an impact player off the bench I personally don't think he offers anything more than Sammon, and it may be as the season goes on and Best realises that this is his role, (a role he wanted to leave behind at Blackburn) we may actually get less out of him than the impecably honest and professional Sammon.

I still think that it's a bit early to write Best off. He was poor on Tuesday, but he did make the headed fishcake to Martin which led to the first goal. I've seen him play well against us, and I'd say his contribution when coming off the bench has been roughly the same as Sammon's. Hopefully he'll settle in prove his worth. If not, then at least we've not made him our top earner and given him a four year contract, so no disaster.

He isn't going to all of a sudden improve, occasionally he has done ok against us, more often no threat at all, he won't be on buttons either so Best was a strange choice.

He looks slow, lumbering and bulky, in our system he may be a slightly better fit than Sammon but overall I think Sammon is superior, for a team like Ipswich using his pace and energy down the channels.

I agree with CR there have been some strange choices this summer. Whitbread, Naylor and Best I can't understand at all what these players can offer.

Best reminds me of a cross between Sammon, Theo and Tyson he appears to be all 3 rolled into 1 unfortunately that makes about 1/2 to 3/4 of a player

Point was made to me today that we missed out on the better option by not getting the lad that went from Boro to Burnley .
That Best is the very cheap option and little improvement on the Fish.
And to pray that Martin does not get.....(.I am not going to say it and tempt fate)
