Doubt their chairman will be firing anyone soon.

STEVE BRUCE has ruled himself out for the Newcastle job - the first of many?

Hull manager Steve Bruce is "determined" to keep his side in the Premier League rather than become Newcastle boss.

    It just won't go away . . .

Steve McClaren has emerged as a front runner for the post. Newcastle have yet to make
contact with his current club, Derby County, but they are braced for an approach.

The former England manager is settled and doing very well at Derby, who are chasing
promotion from the Championship again after losing out in the last minute of the play-off
final to QPR last season. But the lure of immediate access to the top flight and a big club
like Newcastle may prove to be too strong.

If Mac was to go to Newcastle it would certainly pull the rug from under our season.

Career Kryptonite. SM would be insane to come here. The 'most loyal supporters the world has ever seen' would turn on him after one defeat. They think they're Real Madrid, but they're a French Aston Villa.

If ever there was a time for the owners to produce some real investment it's now. McClaren will want to start next season in the PL. If he believes that is likely at Derby County I reckon he'll stay. For that promotion to be likely we need to bolster the squad. All our players are good - which means improvements need to of very high quality - which certainly won't be cheap in January.

    Spot on.

In a roundabout way, the Newcastle vacancy should have strengthened SM's bargaining
position with the board and investors. Ler's hopet that John Carver does well but not so
well that he's appointed too soon.

If SM goes, we won't just lose an excellent manager, which we would be bad enough, but
we'd also lose his contacts, his standing in the game, and the trust of other managers which
has got us better quality loans and should get us better signings in the future.

New Year's resolution - which I'll break of course

Don't read Twitter until Newcastle have a new manager. So much stuff being written, and so many bookies stopping taking bets.

I didn't want him as Derby manager, but now I might even shed a manly (in case Loughie's reading) tear if he goes.

Bugger - Rob Shepherd, an proper journalist type, now insinuating that he's going to Everton.

That one is far more worrying - no loopy owner to worry about.

Don't get the Martinez negativity from some. He did well at Swansea and Wigan and has done well at Everton until this season. He hasn't had a bad season yet and still has time to turn this one round.

I agree Ammy....football's gone mad though..seems like we are hitting the manager musical chair perfect storm..
I understand where steve mac might be ambitious...but makes me laugh when they spend their time convincing players to commit long term...
Rack up that compensation fee if this happens.

If he wlks away from the Rams now, another little piece of my love of football would die. I know it would be a progression for him to go to Everton or Newcastle but somewhere deep down I felt that he believed he belongs here and that the long term prospects were enough to inspire the thought that we could reach the level of both these clubs.

I know it's romantic nonsense in this day and age, but part of me still believes.
