    Computer help please...

Post by Stockport Ram on Mon 06 Apr 2015, 10:30 am

I'm not sure that this is the right place to post it, but my PC has been invaded by a search engine called snapdo.

It defaults in across the board, and I have seen viruses which my anti virus (AVG) is currently coping with, but I fear the little rascal will find a way through eventually.

I have tried most remedies which can be googled, but wonder if anyone on here has suffered and managed to resolve the issue?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly uninstall it and the toolbar it usually installs from the 'Programs' screen in Control Panel.

Then download the free version of Malwarebytes and alter the scan settings to include rootkits. That gets rid of most things.

These things often re-write your saved shortcuts and alter the registry entries to make it harder to reverse. If you are still getting problems you will need to reset/reinstall your browsers.

That one in a pain in the arse, I would restart in safe mode and uninstall it then do as CR says, but you'll prob find it lurking still somewhere.

Uninstall, change all your default browser settings etc then see.

I did that when I got it on my PC. It was still lurking. So I downloaded jv16 Power Tools. The free version only gives you a list of files it has left in your registry. You then go into the registry and delete the files listed. Be warned, it is time consuming as it can be several hundred files you have to delete manually.

If you do it manually, don't forget to backup your registry first before deleting stuff. If you cock things up by accidentally deleting a file, you can always restore the registry.

    Good luck SR.
