Great player, loyal servant to a club deeply entrenched in my heart, but I think Sky needs to realise that football isn't Hollywood, however much they try to make out it is.

    Like I said elsewhere.
From a Gerrard point of view.
Leaving aside Champions League and all that stuff.
If the only thing he did was play for his home town team and score that goal v West Ham in the 90th minute of a FA Cup final to tie it up and eventually win the cup he would be able to look back with pride .
Amazing goal the kind he would have dreamt of as a kid.

I must admit, as much as I think he's been a very good player, I'm sick to death of hearing about his departure.

Let's get it straight, better players than him have moved on with barely a mention, whereas we have had six months of this 'moving to America' parade. He isn't retiring, he hasn't died, he is swapping competetive football for a season of friendlies so who, apart from a few thousand robbing liars, and a load of media led muppets, actually care?

I'll be glad when he's gone, just so that 'thebest league in the world' can move on to it's next MASSIVE story.

agree with luffs - good player but sick of the sycophantic rantings of the media - lets be honest he has been mostly shite for a couple of yearsy

I will give him credit for staying at Liverpool as long as he did but that is about it. I was going to say playing for only one club his entire career but can't say that either. Tired of the scouse fans acting like the world is ending now that he is leaving.

and the only reason (according to popular myth) that he stayed was that he was threatened that his family would be beat up if he left - scousers....

Don't give him too much credit. The rumour at the time he was offered the chance to move to Chelsea (and win things) was that if he did move his house would be burnt down, possibly with his family in it.

Of course, the rumour might not have been true...

    Gerrard or Scholes?

As much as my heart says Gerrard, my head says Scholes.

His underplayed exit from manure summed up the player, and the man. Compare and contrast.

Another reason for the English to dislike Fergie - He was brilliant at mind games, and knew that his genuine care and attention of Paul during his time there would reap due loyalty - I have no doubt that he was the main reason why, in my opinion, the finest English midfield player of his generation decided to retire from International football.
