It sometimes seems like we're destined never to get to a World Cup Final. We were unlucky in the penalty shoot-out in 1990 and last night was cruel in the extreme. The girl had to try and cut out the pass from the wing, but what were the chances the ball would have ended up in her own net ?

    Very, very unlucky England.

    Again.

They beat the Germans for 3rd place by slotting home a penalty, something the men couldn't do. I was hoping for an England-US final this year. Oh well we shall have our revenge on Japan tomorrow!

I asked the question whether England ladies or indeed any international ladies team would beat a mens team from step 6. I think not.

I watched a Women's FA Cup final at the Baseball Ground in the early 90's.  Never again!

    Women's football, not for me!!!

I thought they were outstanding. Grew into the tournament after the France defeat, a bit like Italia 90, and in the end showed team spirit a million times better than any male representative side since.

The best team in Europe, and the third best in the world - the nation should be very proud of them.

Don't get me wrong. I'm extremely pleased for them and proud of them but women's football is not for me.

There was some very good football on display in some of the games. The thing that will always let women's football down is the quality of the goalkeepers.

One other thing I'd like to point out; isn't it refreshing to see players getting up after a foul, rather than rolling around on the floor for 15 minutes.

Why the goalkeepers, other than height what are the disadvantages to a woman in being a decent keeper. Not saying your wrong just seems odd to me.

Well that's exactly the reason. Most professional goalkeepers are over 6 foot tall. I'm not saying there aren't women that tall, just that the odds are against them.

I've personally enjoyed the Womens World Cup, but some of the goalkeeping displays in particular, have been very poor.

Why isn't GB fielding a women's team in the Olympics?

Either didn't qualify or didn't enter qualification.

Probably the same reason as the gents..... not wanting to give FIFA/African and Asian countries the chance to force the 4 home FA's to field just one team in European and World Cups.

    Calif_Ramette wrote:Why isn't GB fielding a women's team in the Olympics?

It's to do with the Scots and Welsh not agreeing to field a single GB national team.
The Olympics have never allowed us to have four teams as FIFA and UEFA do.

I suppose they're afraid it would be the thin end of a wedge and might lead to GB having
a single team in all World and European football (men's and women's), instead of all four
parts of GB (England, N Ireland, Scotland and Wales) having their own separate teams.

If you think about it, it is rather odd that other countries allow us to do this. After all
they're aren't separate teams from Catalonia, the Kingdoms of Naples, Bavaria, Prussia
etc even though  some of those have been independent nations much more recently
    than any part of GB.
