    Most expensive away kit

Post by Barnstaple Ram on Mon 14 Sep 2015, 12:27 pm

Cardiff City have announced that their new third kit will cost supporters £699 and they must sponsor a player for the season to be entitiled to one which they will get at the end of the season (only using it for one seaon)

The club have also said they will only play in it if their is a clash with both their blue an red kits

So thats £699 for a shirt that may never be worn in match all season and you can't have it until it has become last seaosns third kit.

What great marketing, how many will be daft enough to pay?

Absolutely loads would be my guess. A limited edition kit will only ever gain in value I reckon, and if the club authenticate it, the fact that it may never be worn in a competetive match may actually push the value higher. If I got one, the first thing I'd do is to get it signed by the players

Only to be used if there is a clash with both their red AND blue kits.......

Cups aside, the only "possible clash" which is only a vague clash, might be Burnley's claret and blue.

If they do wear it, will they change their name to "Cardiff City Dragons" FC for a day?

Another example of a football club owner taking the p!ss out of the average supporter yet again.

They would not listen, they're not listening still
    Perhaps they never will.

This isn't a rip off at all. It is a great opportunity to purchase a collectable item that will probably grow in value over the years. Selling disposable ten a penny shirts to 10,000 fans at £50 a pop is the real p*ss take.

At the end of the day we all have a choice whether to buy a shirt or not. Personally I stopped when the club decided to bring three new kits out every year, barely changing the first kit year on year in the process.

I would estimate that at least 50K Rams fans manage at least 1 game a season. Isn't that sufficient sponsorship?

Sponsor of a kit/player not that uncommon bitd was usual in lower leagues, but 3rd kit is bit mu h.

Derby auction shirts off and some go for ridiculous amounts.

Yes Martin they do, however, when DCFC does it the cash goes to charity. The Poppy Day shirts get auctioned every year and the cash goes to the British Legion. Other shirts get auctioned off for the various charities the club supports. IMO any comparison between Derby auctioning shirts and this blatant attempts to make a few bob by Cardiff is not valid.

The amazing thing is it will be a max of 30 players at 700 a throw. That is £21k. Hardly worth the bother is it? Unless they are planning to accept multiple sponsors of individual players.........
