    RIP David Bowie

Post by Boris on Mon 11 Jan 2016, 7:25 am

Has died at the age of 69. One of my all time heroes, had all his early albums. Hunky Dory must rank as one of the best albums ever. RIP

More of a fan these days than I ever was at his height. His music evokes such memories for somebody my age, every song reminds you of something or somewhere.

Spot on Loughs. My brother who is 5 years older than me was a massive fan so I grew up listening to all his early stuff..fantastic songs like Space Oddity, Life on Mars, Changes, Starman...the list goes on. This has hit me like the death of John Lennon. A really sad and upsetting day.

Only started to like his stuff quite recently. Superficial little me was turned off by all the make up and pretentious crap that went along with his "persona".

Appreciated all over the world. His newest offering was only released last Friday. Should rocket to #1.

    RIP DB.

If like me you were a teenager in the 1970s and listened to him on your cassette players I'm guessing your pretty stunned today.

It is always sad when anyone passes, but he clearly had a huge effect on millions of people, and I sympathise with their heartfelt grief today.

I have no intention of any offence, but i simply didn't get him.

    May he rest in peace.

Biggest impact in the media that I have seen for a long time regarding the passing of a singer.

What would be your top 3 Bowie tracks?

    Mine would be:

    1. Drive in Saturday
    2. Life on Mars
    3. Five Years

Just so many to choose from.......

    1. Ashes to Ashes
    2. Life on Mars
    3. Oh you pretty things

But hard to keep it to 3, and I would probably pick a different 3 tomorrow

His music has been extremely influential over time and he was certainly a trail blazer.
My favourite 3 would probably be
heroes, changes and life on mars but very difficult to pick just 3

Never been a great fan but I appreciate the contribution he made to music. Most people young or old if asked would probably be able to remember at least one of his songs.

Ground Control has talked to Major Tonk about seeing Life On Mars which may keep the Gnome Laughing which could be a real Space Oddity. This story was told by The Starman to the Jean Genie because he was a real Rebel Rebel among The Young Americans and it stayed with him even to the Golden Years when his Sound and Vision suffered badly. He was put Under Pressure to find Peace On Earth for the Little Drummer Boy and the China Girl and he did that by Dancing In The Street with some Absolute Beginners who said are you The Man Who Sold The World? If so Where Are We Now? Blackstar was the final reply.

May you rest in peace Elephant Man, Halloween Jack, Thin White Duke, Aladdin Sane, Major Tom, Ziggy Stardust, and David Jones but most of all alter egos, David Bowie.

Yeah was forgetting the impact and shock involved with Michael Jacksons death..great entertainer and singer in his Motown Years..but a totally different talent to Bowie.

NER mentions Elvis. I still don't get the almost deification he has. He started off doing R&B (the real stuff, not what laughingly gets called it these days) and went on to do R&R (again, proper R&R, not what is called that today). He did R&R for maybe 2 whole years, did his 2 (?) conscription years in the Army and then went on to make some really crap films and sing ballads and sing to the rich folk who visit Vegas. >90% of his career was spent pandering to the wish for slush from your average Vegas customer. Add to that the fact that, thanks to his manager's wish not to get arrested and deported back to Holland, he never toured the rest of the world to give thanks to Joe Public who spent millions buying his records.

Its sacrilege to be indifferent to the King.

I didn't really get him either. I completely agree.
