    Great Football Chant

Post by Barnstaple Ram on Mon 14 Mar 2016, 8:54 am

I was down in Kent for a wedding at the weekend and the reception was in the club room of Tunbridge Wells Football Club

Among the merchandise on the wall was a scarf bearing the word of their fans favourite chant which pokes fun at the town being very posh

    "Oh Tunbridge Wells is wonderful
Its full of Lawyers, Architects and Doctors"
    Oh Tunbridge Wells is wonderful"

Wonder what the Derby equivalent should be

    Maybe something like -

Derby is a Rolls Royce city
But our football's down the toilet

(this polite version doesn't rhyme but I'm sure you can supply a suitable rhyme for 'city')

    or -

    Derbyshire born and Derbyshire bred
Strong in the arm and weak in the head.

The Oxford Dictionary of Phrase and Fable quotes this for Yorkshire
but I've heard it used about Derbyshire and other shire counties too.

My mum always used to say
    Derbyshire born and Derbyshire bred
strong in t'arm and wick in t'head

She said Yorkshire folk were weak in t'head but Derbyshire folk were wick in t'head meaning quick.

    How about,

' We are Black and White and we were playing shite,

Tip and Tap always going Back, has led to PC 'my way' getting himself the sack.

Now Darren's in, lets all believe, he will get us in the mix,

C'mon you Rams, Attack, Attack, Attack and get us in the Six'.

Ps I am not a poet and I am not giving up my day job.
