We start the new campaign in the County Championship at Gloucestershire this morning. We have decided to bat first. As usual I am very optimistic. I think we certainly look stronger in the batting department having Rutherford and New Zealander Broom for the whole season in all competitions. I think the problem will be bowling teams out with Footit gone to pastures new. I really like the look of our 20/20 team. Securing the services of James Neesham, another New Zealand international all rounder looks a good bit of business. My 20/20 team would be:

    1. Durston
    2. Rutherford
    3. C Hughes
    4. Broom
    5. Madsen
    6. Neesham
    7. A Hughes
    8. Thakor
    9. Poynton
    10. Cotton
    11. Carter

My predictions for the season are 4th in the Championship and Quarter Finals in the 1 day and 20/20 formats. Come on Derbyshire!!!

96 for no wicket at lunch, good solid start both batsmen into the 40's.

Made some very shrewd signings this winter, particularly excited to see how Rutherford gets on, probably the beat replacement for Guptil we could have got. Did he have a word in his ear and steer him towards a stint at the county ground. Not really heard too much about the other players coming in. I too fear loosing Mr Footit may be the biggest problem we face. Hoping they can push for a promotion spot but not holding my breath.

    Painfully slow game. 140 - 2 off 60 overs.

Turgid was the word used by BBC Gloucestershire I believe.

Like the above I fear the loss of Footit will mean we can't bowl teams out twice which is so important in these 4 day games (obviously, but I'm sure you take my point).

Who goes up will probably be decided by the weather and who actually manages to finish, and win, a lot of their games.
Then the powers that be can decide oiks like us can bugger off and will create a smaller league of teams they want to be there in a first attempt to ruin cricket like they did football.

Unless it gets rained off or their entire bowling attack goes down with delhi belly from eating a dodgy curry, our chances of avoiding defeat look a bit slim.

I thought it must be an 'easy' wicket to score runs on with us making that many in the first innings.

Perfectly possible for a Derbyshire collapse of epidemic proportions tomorrow.

Can we manage to last three sessions, I doubt it. I've been there, done it and got the t-shirts many times before ...... Rage

The squad watched the Rams beat Brizzle last night. Hopefully that will give them the confidence to do it right and not get beaten.

Seems to have done the trick, 126-1 and now ahead...
