Bye to the fish Connor sammon and Warnock, can't fault both there work rate
Also calero, koblenz, morch, kwame Thomas and shaquille macdonald all released from the U21s, decent when I've seen them play and not given much of a chance at senior level

Strange decisions without a manager mind or is it......

Warnock was always going once Olsson was signed and Sammon is just useless.

Calero is the only one from the U21 list who has a chance of making it at Championship level. He might have been worth another year. I'm quite surprised that Santos has been extended as he hasn't really been near the first team and never caught the eye when I've watched the U21s.

As you say though, I wonder who is making the decisions?

Surely it would make sense to recruit a few less youngsters for the U21's, so many seem to be released without reaching the first team squad and spend some of the money on players for the first team?

Did we discuss about the academy how much it cost not long ago.

A decent estimate seems to be about £4m per year. It has to be over £2.5m for category 1 status, and we apparently go quite a lot further than the minimum.

Spending on youth development and facilities is exempt from the FFP calculation so, although it clearly impacts cash flow, it shouldn't cause any problems as long as Mel is happy to fund it.

U21s or U18s being let go of is quite probably Wassall's call as he is still head of The Academy so although one or two of the names did surprise me a bit, the list being published now did not.

As for the Senior players list, the only two out of contract players have been thanked for their services. We all know that some of the rest will either go out on loan, be sold or given free transfers to make room for incoming players. That there is no indication of outgoings from the squad may well point to Mel not yet knowing who will be at the helm next season.

THAT is, IMO, worrying although it does signal that it isn't, yet at least, DW. We live in hope.

I know from a source close to the player that Calero didn't especially want to go back to Spain - its not a Albie situation at all. It's a shame that we didn't try him in the first team IMHO, he is a good players albeit a bit lightweight at times.
