It's the Derby way dontcha know.

If your precis of the game is correct, why did Akinfejev have to make 3 or 4 very good saves?

He made saves, no Worldies IMO. But 3 or 4 shots on target all game? No great shakes tbh.

Agree one really good save from Rooney but nothing else that wasn't comfortable. Massive game for Hodgson today, really needs a win or he will face a really tricky game with Slovakia to save his bacon, to do that he has to limit Bale who make no mistake has the ability to rip England's defence to shreds, also I think Wales would be happy facing those Derby type tactics England deployed the other night and that team.

I believe either Sturridge or Vardy have to come in but up front, not on the wing we have to hurt Wales, will be interesting and not as easy to call as those awful BBC pundits have you believe.

Said back when the draw was made it was almost a certain 1-0 win for Wales.
Think I have gone for a England win in our gts but more through hope than conviction .
Always had disaster written over it this one..would love to smash em though just to shove it down horse face Bales mouth.

    Here are today's teams -

England: Hart; Walker, Cahill, Smalling, Rose; Dier, Alli, Rooney; Lallana, Kane, Sterling.

Wales: Hennessey; Gunter, Chester, Williams, Taylor, Davies; Ledley, Ramsey, Allen; Robson-Kanu, Bale.

That's no change for England, isn't it?

Famous last words I'm sure, but the Russian defence strikes me as being a little more robust than Wales, who I thought looked pretty shaky at the back. If we play in the same way, we should have some joy up top. Our focus should not be on shutting down Bale, it should be on relentlessly attacking their goal. All we have to do is score one more than them.

    Lucky win?????????????

In what way was that lucky? We were the better team, we created the most chances, had the better players, had the most possession, were the only team trying to win from the first minute to the last, and most importantly scored the most goals.

    Do you even understand football?

Dominated two games but struggled to turn domination into goals.
We have an abundance of forwards...throw em in LOL
Leaving football out of it...Vardy should have been in the team from game one.
Given the golden spoon that's been stuck up his arse all season surely you needed to throw in someone who is having the best year of his life and hope his run of good fortune rubs off on your team.

    1. Sounds logical
    2. Is what most fans said from the off

However, it doesn't always work that way. Harry Kane has had Vardy's golden spoon's twin up his arse all season. He even has 3 THFC teammates in the England side to help him. Harry is off the pace at the moment. He should be on the bench for the Slovakia game.

We finished that game playing something like a 1-4-3-2-Sturridge, with Studger wandering anywhere and everywhere. This seemed successful and Woy should stick to the formation. I would also start Rashford who did not seem out of place at this level.

I don't think woy needs to start the young lad but he is a decent option from the bench, certainly his selection to the squad was vindicated yesterday. Wales got what they deserved yesterday negative spoilers from the off with a gobby manager, Hodgson got the team wrong and the tactics played into Wales hands first-half, at least he put it right at half-time and it was much improved second-half.

He can relax a bit now not having to win the last game, which would have been very tricky . The team has improved from 2 years ago left-back is better, some good young lads have come in still some work to do centre-halfs look shaky and he should have changed the keeper a while ago. I think England will still be short against the better teams but some signs that in 2 years time if the lad Stones improves and perhaps Butland or Forster in goal we could look a decent team again.

IMHO the team that started the second half is the best 11 we out there.

Depends who England play against, Vardy and Sturridge against Wales yes but they would probably with their technical limits not trouble the better teams in the competition. The best defenders don't worry about one footed players.

Which are the better teams in the competition? Have any really stood out so far? Germany maybe, France maybe? I've not been terribly impressed by any team as yet.

They worried about both Maradonna and Messi who are both very one footed

Both those could play off the weaker foot and the balance to go either way, Sturridge, Vardy and Sterling are very clearly one sided players, much easier to defend against for top players.

France, Germany and Spain are favourites all have won major events in recent times. I thought Italy and Croatia looked good in the first game good outside bets both those teams, Italy won't concede many and Croatia very strong in the midfield. The event changes from a league to cup knock out so early games can be deceptive in picking a winner.
