January 2017 new player suggestion thread

Post by RRC on Mon 05 Sep 2016, 4:43 pm

What players do you think we need to sign in the January 2018 window?

Who might Nigel Pearson want for the squad?

Let's have your thoughts and tips here.

New full backs....new centre forward...de Laet or Wisodom for right back..but we were too late...no idea now...given up..let the scouts do their job!
and try and get rid of the bang average players we have...

Big striker, defensive midfielder and centre back - but most importantly, at least one of them should be a real leader.

I think that our needs and wants will look different by January.

In my opinion we need to get behind the manager and the players we have, and get them playing as well as they can in the next four months and see where that takes us, instead of wishing away half the season so that we can buy some more players, that we may not actually need.

Do you mean January 2017? If so thinking a battling midfielder in the Barry Bannan mode, or in fact the actual Barry Bannan!

Right, I should have put 2017, though I fear that it may take a bit longer
to replace the bottlers, the players with no talent for the game, no brain,
no skills, no end product and so on.

I'll be disappointed if we sign Bannan. I hope we'll find a midfielder with
some potential to reach EPL standards, which Bannan never had. Maybe
we could scout a bit further afield in future.

I get that we (as fans) always seem to go for old players, and if finances allow, I hope we fill our boots, but he has been three times the player we signed and has some of that energy we are missing.

Think we need the players to get to the promised land first and he fits the bill IMO.

Is that the same Hendrick who engineered the move or the Chris Martin that has been sulking for the last 6 months?

In defence of Martin, he always looks like he's sulking..its just his mannerisms....andcbtw, I would sulk if I had the piss poor service he's been getting! ...but remember players like Chris Waddle or Matt le Tissier..their body language always looked like they weren't interested...its just the way they moved...would you rather have a Conor Sammon type, all action but shite!?!

Let's be real, Scotland were playing Malta.. and Hendrick turns it on for country, but rarely for club. I personally think that had we not sold him, we'd look back on it much like we did with Sturidge and regret not taking the money and running. The club has got this right IMO.

Agree, some one had to go and Jeff was best offerplus as Nigel reported he wanted to go. So let's ove on. If it was either Jeff or Hughes we all sell Jeff first.

Sturridge refused to go to Arsenal because he didn't want to sit on the bench hoping his idol would get injured. Far worse than that was not making Hulse go to Middlesborough !! Another holding CF who spent too much time on the floor.................

I would rather we somehow managed to offload the expensive shite who are not good enough to displace Nigel C's signings

Blackman, Bent, Camara, Butterfield, Johson would free up significant wages - but the year 1/2 FFP hit would be prohibitive.

Like Luffy said we have what we have no point bitching - lets see what NP can do with them - and hope the new super scouting system is better than that under McClaren and Clement

Pearson seems to have identified the bad eggs & shipped them out. The couple he has brought in seem to be the hard-working, run until they drop sort of player. Not the worst thing to do to eradicate the malaise spreading through the team. I would expect he will try to identify more in this mould, although i would like to see a new centreback, right back, defensive midfielder & a target man.

People always say that football is a 'results business', so if this scary run of form carries on for much longer you could be adding 'new manager' to your list.

I thought we were bad the last time we graced the PL, but at least we could say we were playing tough opposition every week. Not sure we can use that excuse for the current predicament.

With less than three weeks to go until the window opens this needs a bump because things have changed dramatically in the last two months.

I think that we need options up front more than anything else at the moment, I'd like to see us try and get Gallagher from Blackburn. Maybe doesn't get enough goals but I think he looks a great talent with enormous potential

Way back when I went for LB, RB and CH.

Since then we have seen us be abysmal from front to back, a Manager and a an assistant sacked, the fella with the umbrella is back and we are playing SM's brand of 1-4-3-3 with a touch of the Powell handbrake to keep things solid. Things are looking good. What a turn round.

LB doesn't look like a problem at the moment. Olsson and Lowe are taking it in turns to be injured, giving the other game time. Both are doing well.

RB. Cyrus was looking good again and then got injured. In comes Baird and he looks solid as a rock. Thanks for proving me wrong Chris.

CH. Shacks got injured and Pearce came in. I put my hand up on him too.

Midfield looks fine. Bryson not yet 100% but we don't need to rush him as Hughes, Butters and BJ are doing fine and dandy. I agree with the comment made by others that any addition to the midfield should be of the Seth Johnson type rather than the Will Hughes brand.

Up front I am still not 100% sure on Vydra and Bent as the #9. Both have qualities and are doing OK but no more than that so far. Blackman is injured but hasn't had a run of games in that position so, other than to say he most certainly aint a wide man, I won't pass judgment on him. If a proven player like Rhodes or similar came available at a price we can afford, both in money and FFP terms I would say YES.

Out wide Ince is still an enigma. When Ince brings his A game and gets stuck in as he did against the Huggers, even his lack of a right foot isn't a handicap at this level. Ince on his B game... may a swell play me ;) JR cannot be faulted for effort but his penchant for finding blind alleys detracts from his performance. Both need to work on their first touch. Weimann? I feel for the lad. I think he could do the job but while we are doing well he isn't going to get a look in, despite the rapport he must have with Bent from their Villa days. Anya is another who can do this job and he has the advantage of being able to play FB as well but he is injured. Camara? As with Blackman he needs a run in the side to show whether he can or not......

    So, the precis is........

    1. A Seth type for MF
    2. A Rhodes type for #9

Oh David Nugent, Oh David Nugent, we found him in Preston, we found him in Preston, we found him in Preston at the side of the road in a Volkswagen beetle............
