    Forest takeover scrapped

Post by RRC on Fri 13 Jan 2017, 10:47 pm

The Nottingham Forest takeover deal has collapsed

An American consortium led by John Jay Moores had sought to secure an 80 percent stake in the Championship club from Fawaz Al Hasawi, in a £50m deal.

But the Reds' Kuwaiti chairman tonight said in a statement that he no longer felt the deal was 'in the best interests' of Forest.

Negotiations had begun back in October and the deal had been thought to be edging closer to completion, ahead of what would have been a bright new dawn for the club.

But more recently the American consortium are understood to have squeezed Al Hasawi for a better deal, in the full knowledge that he was under intense pressure from fans to sell the club, with his relationship with supporters having eroded badly.

    Nottingham Post

Nottingham Forest have been thrown into fresh turmoil after the £50million takeover by US investor John Jay Moores was scrapped on Friday night.

Moores, the former owner of the San Diego Padres, has abandoned his bid to take charge at the struggling Championship club after failing to reach agreement with Fawaz Al Hasawi, the current chairman.

Forest have been in talks with Moores' consortium since the summer but negotiations have broken down over a number of factors to leave the double European Cup-winners facing a battle to avoid relegation to League One. It is believed that Al Hasawi and Moores were in conflict over certain financial details and Forest's players have been resigned to the takeover collapsing for the past few days.

Telegraph Sport revealed the interest from Moores in September and while he has been cleared by the Football League, talks have collapsed spectacularly over the past three weeks. Al Hasawi is now expected to remain as owner and chairman, after four-and-a-half years at the City Ground, and the sacking of manager Philippe Montanier is certain to be imminent. Montanier has lost six of the past seven games and Al Hasawi has told colleagues that it was only the takeover process keeping the French manager in a job.

Nottingham Forest fans call for boycotts and protests after takeover collapses

Nottingham Forest fans have called for protests and a boycott of the club as they reacted with anger and despair at the news the takeover has collapsed.

The deal which would have seen John Jay Moores' American consortium take an 80 percent stake in the Reds is no more after months of negotiations.

It appeared to be the case that contracts would be exchanged, but both sides are believed to have looked to tweak the deal at the last minute.

Now it has broken down, Forest fans fear the club is heading for League One. The transfer embargo has been lifted with the club now able to sign players, however, that is little solace to fans, with many calling for boycotts of home games and protests against the owner, Fawaz Al Hasawi.

Is pretty amazing the amount of moaning and negativity we produce on here.
Given what's happening down the road...yeah of course what we have is not even close to perfect..or promotion for that matter.
But I still at least have some hope for our future..bet there aren't many down the road with anything close to hope.

It says a lot that many of them actually WANT their own team to enter administration.
