    Help, please!

Post by DavesaRam on Fri 03 Feb 2017, 11:57 am

Does anybody know of any HGV C driving jobs available, please?

I have just been made redundant for the second time in 3 months from the same job. I was delivering concrete products for Aggregate Industries in Hulland Ward, driving the only Class C vehicle at the site - all the other lorries are Class C + E (articulated, for those in the real world!).

The transport operation is run by a company whose name rhymes with "Stobart", who have decided they don't want to use the rigid vehicle anymore. Why I don't know, because there are plenty of places which can't be accessed with an artic, and last time they laid me off (in October), they got into a right mess with failed deliveries, and they asked for my boss to put the vehicle back on the road. It took 4 weeks to catch up, but they have decided to stop using the lorry yet again!

I am out of work again, and am looking for vacancies. I have applied for several jobs, but most are through agencies, so who knows whether the jobs actually exist or not.

I am available for immediate start, and would apprecisate any help you can give me.

Know the feeling Dave. My semi retirement becomes a permanent one until I can find something else as of March 1st. Changing circumstances mean I have to look hard and fast for a new job but, at 63, as I will be by then, I am not holding my breath.

I hope you soon find a job. UPS maybe? It's not HGV but at least it would provide income until you find a "proper" job.

Thanks, Ammy. I'm not far behind you at 60, but from a UPS point of view, it tends to be dead man's shoes because it is a good job to have. I have tried in the past, and ended up looking on with envy!

Hi Dave, have you thought of all the builders yards, you might have to get a hiab ticket thought. Then there's the skip hire places like Peak Waste or Derwent Skip hire.
Was in Hingleys timber yard the other day and they have had blokes leave don't know if they are looking for anyone?

There are plenty of firms out there, get your cv out to as many as you can. If you do have your HIAB ticket there are several specialist haulage firms in the Wirksworth, Matlock area. BJ waters/ geo siddal at Matlock and Richard Lester in Wirksworth are two that spring to mind. Hope you have some luck and find a job soon. Not nice to be sat twidling your thumbs when you want to be earning a honest days wage.

My lad is there next Thursday for a first round of interviews, tests and psychological examinations for a pilot's job. If he gets through there is a 2nd round the week after. If he does make round 2 then the process will have cost him about 750...... just hipe he gets the job...... which will be based in Leipzig.
