Apparently Phil is annoyed with bench warming and fancies a switch, clearly I told her he should head on down to Derby. After all Robbie Savage lived in the area and commuted to Derby. This was just a random chat, but seriously, he could be a decent shout for us?
Another right back though? We have wisdom, Baird and anya who can do a job there

Is anyone else a bit underwhelmed by our transfer targets? I'm not really talking about the quality of, just the 'obviousness' of.

I just find it a bit tedious when we bring in only players from the top end of the Championship and Premier League reserves/bench warmers. I thought that Rowett might have a bit more imagination. Maybe an unknown Croat, a Costa Rican wizard or a goal machine from the Conference?

Huddlestone, Jota and Lawrence may all be quality, but they're expensive and hardly novel. It makes me wonder whether we still have scouts or just rely on players that the manager knows. Even Simon Clough managed to get past Gretna Green on occasion.

Honestly until I see the staged picture I don't believe anything I hear or read about possible targets.
Time to be impressed or underwhelmed will be signature time.
But only for a minute cause judgement time for me will start sometime in the middle of winter.

I agree NER, it's not time to be over or under whelmed. At the moment the only criteria for me is whether Gary Rowett wants the player or not and that will remain until we have had time to judge whether his purchases have been successful or not. I don't care where they come from of how much they cost, I only care that they fit the managers plans.

Agreed. It's the total sum of the parts. On the outside looking in we do look less than we did 2 or 3 months ago. There are still, according to GR, 2 or 3 expected to arrive and, following his squad size reduction mantra, we should lose, one way or another, another half a dozen or so.

Only then can we deliver a verdict on the window's success, in our opinion, or otherwise.

I'd also suggest that Blackman (although some would disagree) and Weimann have yet to be proven as flops. I also think Butterfield has the potential to still be a great player for us with the right formation, and with a little bit of confidence to do what he did best at Huddersfield.

    From Derby Telegraph

Derby County are one of three Championship clubs chasing French midfielder Valentin Rongier, according to reports.

The defensive midfielder is attracting interest from Birmingham City, Fulham and the Rams, according to Getwestlondon.

Fulham have reportedly expressed their interest in Rongier, who plays for Ligue 1 side Nantes.

The 22-year-old missed the majority of the 2015-16 season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but played a key part in the side last term.

He made 31 appearances as Nantes finished seventh.

The report suggests Rongier is keen on an opportunity to challenge for promotion to the Premier League – something Derby will be hoping for in 2017/18.

It is thought a fee in the region of £3m would have to be placed to convince Nantes to sell.

I'll go along with Weimann and Butterfield but Blackman just isn't a player, on the evidence so far he lacks in all aspects of the game and I think that we will prove to be the mugs fooled by the only purple patch in his career.

Seriously???? Butterfield , "a great player".....i'll have a pint of what you've been drinking all day....
He is very, very slow, has no vision, therefore passes backwards..and has been a complete waste of money..we should have got Stephens from Brighton at the time, but a loan was needed , not £4m on a very, very, poor substitute for Will Hughes!

That must surely be based on the fact that George Thorne can't even manager a weeks training without contracting the black death. I love George but we have to move on and prepare for life without him because he is always just minutes away from death and that's no good for anyone.

I know what you mean here MSR but it was the 15/16 season he missed. Last season, as Loughie quoted from the DET, he played 31 games in a side that finished 7th in the top flight in France. That doesn't sound like someone recovering from an ACL injury.........

Do we? GT, BJ, Hanson, Baird, Butterfield and Bryson can all play there in a 1-4-2-3-1 formation. 6 players for 2 positions should be enough.

You say that, but Butterfield and Bryson want to mover further up the pitch, Baird will be wanted as cover on the bench, Hanson has yet to prove he is playing at the level required, and BJ doesn't necessarily have the intelligence and vision to do it effectively.

I think having someone that specialises as a DM for if GT is not as sharp/gets injured would be a priority if using that system. Round pegs in round holes.

Bryson is a runner further upfield. Hanson isn't good enough for this level. Butterfield is crap.  Baird at best is a cover defender. Thorne and Johnson are only current viable options for defensive midfield. Huddlestone is similar to Thorne..so a great option.

Hanson is still very young. With a full pre-season he may well improve on his weaknesses. Most importantly he seems to be a battler which i think Rowett will like.

I agree with all the above - apart from Thorne none of these are proper DM's or of the required standard - we need players playing in the right place - and that is not Vydra as a wide part of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1 - he needs to be playing the nugent role off martin in that....
