Honestly now I am at the stage where I wonder if it's worth actually signing anybody because it seems as if they clearly won't be our first choice and enough of signing someone just to fill a shirt.
    Couple of imaginative loans please.

it seems like we have lost our appeal to players we get linked and they fishcake off some where else.
    is it management?
is it board not paying high transfers?
is it they cant see us being in promotion challenge?
at the moment we sold 2 of our best players and not really replaced yet.

It's very frustrating but I guess we can only judge once the window closes. I did say a month or so ago that we were suffering de ja vu, with Rowett promising massive changes and a "very different team" at the end of last season but not being able to back that up in the summer.

As I said, I guess we have no choice than to wait, but I agree with NER, a couple of imaginitive loans may well be our best option now.

I think to go any higher we would have to shift some of the expensive mistakes and the only way to do that it appears is to "do a camara" and pay them off - which wont happen.

Either way I think - and have been consistent - that it will take 3 transfer windows for the squad to be shaped more in the way Rowett wants - which is why he has a free pass from me this season (unless we sleep walk our 4-3-3 into a relegation battle) and has until Christmas NEXT season to be mounting a credible challenge IN the top 6 (not fighting for the top 6)

We need to at least become a yo-yo club in the next couple of seasons otherwise I doubt we will be able to get our faces in the premiershite trough

mind you if attendances keep falling the next TV round could be interesting - or all the games could end up being played in the middle east and china as they will be the ones stumping up the big bucks

Derby now in advanced talks to sign Tom Lawrence from Leicester. Lawrence has asked to leave. Deal could be £7m+ #dcfc #lcfc

Poor kid better hit the ground running if he signs our part of our fan base will be all over him.
Sounds like we still need multiple signings one won't be enough.
    And at least three outgoings.

Judging by yesterday's performance, an attacking signing can't come soon enough. Let's just hope he proves to be worth it. God knows we need an inspiration, someone to unlock opposing defences.

It's not just out wide up front that needs sorting. So does MF.

Bryson's carrying an injury. He can't play for too long and gets pain when he sprints. He's not fit enough to start games at present, so he's not an option.

If GR has been spending the pre-season working on transfers, maybe the time that this has taken has reduced his coaching role ?

I really hope that the rumours about us being interested in Sam Gallagher are true. I said for most of last season that we should try and get him because he's a real handful, young, quick, strong in the air and very mobile for a big lad. Probably doesn't score as many goals as he should but in terms of a target man or partner for Nugent or Vydra, he's everything that Chris Martin isn't.

I've certainly got my fingers crossed

He got a new 4 year contract with Southampton in July. Wolves recently had a £7M bid turned down. He scored a few at Blackburn last season. He's a young lad with promise but at approaching £10M he'd be a gamble.

Only available on loan apparently, £1 million loan fee plus we'd have to pay all of his wages.

A loan deal would probably suit us. Worth pursuing anyway.

I agree, a loan would probably be better for us, so long as he doesn't get injured almost straight away like that lad from Manure last season.

    The Daily Star says -

Tom Lawrence is having his medical at Derby today.

He's going to cost DCFC £7m.
