In which position could a new player make the biggest difference?

Post by RRC on Tue 16 May 2017, 11:29 pm

We all have views on which players aren't good enough for a promotion side.

Unless we do something to plug the weak spots, next season might be no better than the last three.

In which position could a new signing make the biggest difference?

Toss up between centre-half and left wing for me. I voted for centre-half because we threw away so many points folding like a cheap shirt at the crucial moment. Someone needs to take charge back there as the anchor of a first-rate back line, and apparently that's no one currently on the books. Keogh or Shackell could both play roles, but we need an Igor to come in and bring the back line together as a unit. Our other problem is creative forward play on the wings. We're unable to break teams down when they dig in. That's because we have so little of any real quality out wide except Ince, who prefers to come inside anyway, never passes if he can shoot, and doesn't always feel like playing. I'd trade him for Ibe in a heartbeat.

Thinking out of the Derby box here........

Play #9s at CF, play #10s in the hole, etc.

In short play them in their "proper" positions.

Back to my pet theme as well, get them confident to use both feet. All can but most won't.

I went for a defensive midfielder.

Admittedly we need at least 1 new CB, however, I think that with someone in the mould of George Thorne in the team would have seen us finish in the top 6. It takes pressure off the defence and gives a nice pivot for the attack.

I know we're pinning our hopes on GT to make this an unnecessary position to fill.. but with his injury history, it's a big risk.

Yes, another George Thorne type player who can protect the defence and quickly turn defence into attack with his long passing and vision.

Put defensive mid but for me it would be two centre mids the bigger and badder they can be the better we would be.

How about a fit GT with BJ alongside him in a 1-4-2-3-1 NER? Leaves us with just 4 attacking players though...... unless we go 1-3-2-3-2.
