    Loans - What's best

Post by Barnstaple Ram on Wed 17 May 2017, 1:32 pm

Reading that GR is potentially looking at the loan market for recruits got me wondering what is the best type of player to go for

    Experienced player from League above
    EXperienced player from same league
    Promising player from league below
    Young player from League above

We can all put good and bad examples into each category from our history

But what do you all think is the best option?

Personally, I would like GR to decide:

    1. What formation(s) he wishes to play next season.
    2. Which players don't fit in and let clubs know they are available
    3. Which players he wants in to best fit his plans. Whether that be young loanees (Abraham.... who won't settle for the bench nor would Chelsea let him) or proven buys.
    4. Go out and get the deals done and dusted before pre season starts

I realise that is almost Utopia that I have sketched but it is what needs to happen. It doesn't bother me one iota if incomings are loans or buys, young or old, as long as they are fit for purpose.

Gary Rowett's black & white army! The only certainty is we're all barmy LOL roll

I think that's right, but if I think about what we need, it seems to me we do need some experience in central defence and midfield, so I'd say if a loan of an experienced Premier league player gets us a better player than buying someone does, we should do that. I don't really see how we'd loan a good experienced championship or lower league player - we'd buy them, if they were available, wouldn't we? By and large, any player that isn't good enough for another championship club isn't going to improve our side. I'd be happy to see another Jordan Ibe type signing, but more often than not young loanees in midfield haven't worked out - de Sart, Mascarell, Carroll, Livermore. Even Lingaard, despite going on to play for England, didn't add much.

we need some brick shite house leader in the back four - no nonsense, if in doubt take them/kick it out who bollox people into marking players rather than the invisible non scoring zone.

and a skilful centre half beside him - I think we could find them in the lower leagues or abroad - our last few seasons of signing "proven championship" players has gone how?

My original post was about loans in general and not about what Derby need this close season

Just interested in what the consensus of opinion in what type of player makes for the best loan target

that's the sort of thing stockers - was hoping for more macfarland and todd, hold on they were both brilliant at all aspects of defending - wonder if they fancy a game

Loan targets..ermine Jordan Ibe would be good again, other than that, I would go for a prestigious talent from one of the premier league big boys to play on the left wing
