    Ince replacement

Post by Loughborough Ram on Tue 04 Jul 2017, 8:02 am

Somebody at work reckons that we will be signing Jota(?) as a replacement for Ince.

Can't see it myself as premiersh*t clubs were rumoured to be interested, but what a great free signing that would be.

If that proves to be correct it would be sufficient to make anybody fall in love with the rumour mill. As you say, Loughie, PL teams are interested so it would be highly unlikely to be true.

lets hope - skill and a work rate (hopefully a 1 in 3 strike rate as well)

finally confirmed - that he is gone - what is is with unconfirmed fees - it is a record - therefore it must be more than the £10m for Hendrick?

It's an indisclosed fee on Derby's request. I suspect this is so other clubs don't increase the fee for any of their players we may be interested in. However, Owen Bradley seems to have blurted it out all over Twitter, fool.

    No need.

Ince 15 goals in his best season. Martin 20.

We have more goals coming back than leaving, and are c£10m up front better off.

Looks like a win-win to me.

I will be amazed if he ends up starting more than half their fixtures.
But good luck to him I've moved on also, it's a little like losing Leighton James never truly convincing in the white shirt.

Yes, and I think all of us diehards can't shake the suspicion that this isn't a coincidence. What's the use of being the club's top scorer if your lack of distribution and temperamental work rate detract more from the whole than your solo goals add? That conundrum is Tom Ince in a nutshell. Subtraction by addition.

Obviously it's not. We've removed our best winger/goal scorer and he's been replaced at current by the returning Weimann (who, to his credit, did well at Wolves) and we've lost our most skilled ball playing midfielder in Hughes. However, GT is returning, which is a massive boost (if he can stay fit and is still as sharp).

What we may have gained is squad balance. Fewer players, fewer decisions; players know where they stand and what their role is.

One stat on Ince...... we never lost a game when he scored.

Another point on Ince..... there is an I in Ince but not in team.

Coldplay stats? I don't have them to hand but when you consider he scored 20 or more in 3 consecutive seasons, he seems to have been as productive, regardless of who the manager was.

true. but point i was trying to make poorly is that Ince getting alot of flak when really whole team are to blame. when Martin was injured Bent and Ince were banging goals in ... plan B Whistle

Flawed logic Stocky (must be your desire to see him go)

Martin's 20 replaces Bents 10 so we only gain 10 and Ince's goals over his time with us has been in addition to the strikers

Who in the current squad will add 15 from wide areas?

According to the DT, our remaining attacking options are "Chris Martin, David Nugent, Matej Vydra, Darren Bent, Andreas Weimann, Johnny Russell, Nick Blackman and Mason Bennett. Ikechi Anya can also play a wide role."

Nine players competing for at most four roles, more likely three. If only quantity = quality! My point being, we need a replacement in terms of quality, but not in term of quantity - so maybe more out before he makes a replacement?

Rowett stated that if Ince was sold he would be replaced by a top quality signing, or words to that effect.
Of the 9 players mentioned above i'd IDEALLY get rid of Bent, Blackman & Bennett as a bare minimum, then sign two actual, proper wingers - one a lefty, one a righty. If we got rid of more than the 3 i've mentioned i'd still like to see us sign a big barsteward target man.
