    Lionesses

Post by Jackal on Thu 20 Jul 2017, 1:41 am

It's only their first game of the tournament but i was really impressed with all aspects of their performance against Scotland earlier. Whereas a few years back i've always felt the women's game was a bit weak in the goalkeeping and heading departments, i saw tonight that the women's game has moved up a level again. Admittedly Scotland capitulated quite quickly so there is an issue of quality across the board, but i was really impressed by pretty much every aspect of England's play tonight. I think Mark Sampson is doing a brilliant job & is genuinely a talented coach. Obviously the coaches at the players respective clubs deserve plenty of praise too, but i'm afraid i don't know who many of them are to actually name them.

Did they just pick 11 Scottish women at random?

..... gave the Scottish lasses a right old mauling. Wink

Quite impressed with some of the play. Portugal shouldn't pose any problems but the Spain game will be a toughy.

Always said that you have to judge the ladies' game on its own merits. It's not as fast or physical, they can't shoot as hard as the men. They do, however, have greater spatial awareness and don't fall over for no apparent reason.

I did see a couple of the players spitting on the ground. I guess we can't call them England Ladies anymore.

Having said that, they really should learn to roll around clutching body parts when they are absolutely NOT in pain. These women are making the men look bad.

Well Germany are out so if England can get past France then they must have a great chance.

France duly dispatched, now for the Netherlands. The stadium will be 100% full and 95% of those will be wearing orange. Individually the Dutch are better players but the English team is better. IMO it is all down to how well the ladies fare with a full and hostile stadium.

..... now, how do I get my ticket for the final? Wink

Toughest game to come - but with the favourites out we must have a chance - shame with Germany going out the next 4 best teams were in our half of the drawer.

I think this is like the Derby/Manure semi in 76 - the 2 best teams left in the competition... lets hope the underdog from the other semi doesn't do a Southampton...

I'm surprised that Rowett hasn't tried to bring Jill Scott to Pride Park as she is a damn sight better than Butterscotch and Millie Bright could replace Through the Keyhole.
