read in the DET on who we would like as captain, my self i dont fancy Keogh to be it and i would put vote on Hudds my self, he be in midfield and a steady player than more commanding
    your choices?

Probably Davies for me. Huddlestone isn't a bad shout though.

The captain needs to have guaranteed a starting spot so the choice is limited.
That leaves Carson, Davies and Huddlestone.

Imho Huddlestone will have more than enough to do without being captain
and, as far as I can remember, he hasn't captained a senior side before.

I'd go for Davies but also be happy with Carson.

As others have said, NOT Keogh - on his bad days, he can't organize himself.

If the choice is between Carson, Hudds and Davies I'd go for Davies. He's done the job before and centre back is the best place for a captain.

Honestly we need all eleven players on the pitch to be captains.
The last few seasons the team has lacked backbone when it matters and all eleven players need to be rolling their sleeves up not hiding and being a leader when it matters.
You can give the armband to who ever you want it needs all eleven of them to create the atmosphere and attitude to scrap on the day.

It ought to be a done deal for Davies. Thankfully, Keogh won't have that worry, and I am hoping that with the better quality around him we will see his game go up a notch or two.

I have a feeling that it'll be Keogh, and I'll be getting worried about Rowett.

I'm concerned about the return to 433. If Rowett goes back to Keogh he looks to be trying to recreate the 13-14 side - which IMO will only challenge for the top 6 and only get promoted bout 1 year in 100.

Any improvements in the squad are marginal. Davies is probably better than Buxton and Huddlestone might be the equal of Eustace and Thorne. Wisdom has had mixed fortunes since he left us and might not be the same player - and even the 13-14 Wisdom was pretty average going forward. His presence will put a lot of pressure on Fozzy to get forward - hopefully his body is still up to it. Then we've lost Hughes's ability and Ward's tenacity. We've got Martin back, which'll help, but no midfielder with the running power of Hendrick and Bryson is only a shadow of his former self.

I really want Rowett to change the club, and I'll support him through thick and thin whilst he does it. I don't want him to be a cheap Steve McClaren tribute act, scared to move away from the personel and system that has been our least worst failure over the last few years.

"Huddlestone might be the equal of Eustace or Thorne", f*ck me Corny are you p*ssed????

There are only so many formations you can sensibly use but there are many ways you can operate within a single formation. I think you need to wait and see how we go for a while before you throw yourself off the bridge because there is no way in the world that Rowett will be aski,g the players to play like they did under McLaren.

I suspect if we mirror any team or style it will be more like PCs team than McClarens.
Dour and effective ( hopefully effective) .
I also suspect as I said elsewhere that we are going to end up with a couple of long term loan players as opposed to big signings.
And the quality of those loan signings will dictate our season be nice to have a couple that had the kind of effect and contribution that Osman did back when.
At this stage I just don't envisage us pulling off any quality signings.

No way will this be a sexy football season I just hope the moaners give it a rest and give Rowett a chance.

I'm positive about this coming season personally. A back four including Davies, Wisdom and Forsyth with Huddlestone sitting in front, looks stronger than most in this division and without doubt Carson is among the best keepers at this level. With Nugent playing off a fit and firing Martin I can't see why we won't score goals against any team.

We need to find some quality in the wide positions whether that is by bringing in somebody as they are clearly trying to do, or maximising the productivity of the players that are already here.

I genuinely don't see many stronger squads than ours, there may be teams that will find it easier to score or a couple that may be stronger at the back but overall, to me we look strong and as we stand today the minimum I expect is top 5.

We sold Hughes which I was fine with as long as we added some more speed and mobility.
So I still think we are missing a couple more pieces to give us good odds of at least top six.

Still 5 weeks to go til the window shuts NER. I wonder whether the move for Huddlestone was a reaction to Thorne breaking down and that £2m that it took to get him has negatively impacted on how much we intended to spend on the wide positions

I said 'Eustace and Thorne'. What I meant was during the 13-14 season Eustace was used as the holding player until just after Christmas when he got injured. He was very good and highly influential in our post-Nigel climb up the table. Then Thorne came in was a notable improvement on Eustace - which was highly impressive given that Eustace himself had played so well.

I cannot believe that Huddlestone will be much of an improvement on those two during that particular season. If he is he'll be the undisputed best player in the division by some distance.

That'd be around 11 points Stocky so three wins and 2 draws. I think most of us would be happy with that

We will know at kick off time this afternoon as I reckon whoever wears the armband today will be this season's Captain.

I think you could be in for a pleasant surprise, Corny. From what I've seen of Huddlestone he looks even better than Eustace and Thorne. His vision and passing is outstanding and I predict he will be one of the best players in the division this season.

Of course, this means nothing unless we find some better wide players to take advantage of his ability to drop the ball at their feet from any distance.
