Pick the team to play Grimsby (EFL Cup)

Post by RRC on Sun 06 Aug 2017, 2:25 pm

Will it be 4-3-3 lineup again?

Will anyone other than Saturday's starting XI get a chance to shine?

Vydra demands a starting place. Butterfield does not.

our best 11 with Davies or Huddlestone as captain

agree - Butterfield doesn't feature; Vydra does

so Bryson for Butterfield and Vydra for Weimann

otherwise same as Hoffenhiem and Sunderland

Bennett should play too instead of Russell

I would put a large amount of money on Mitchell in goal for this one.

I would tweak the outfield players a bit. Regardless of whether they performed well at Sunderland or not, I would change the front 3 entirely, assuming of course he will play 1-4-3-3. Vydra, Nugent, Bennett is as good a forward line as Weimann, Martin, JR.

Bryson in for Butterfield in MF.

Back 4, we should be able to give Baird and Olsson a game at FB. Wisdom instead of Keogh at CH to have a look at him in that position. Davies as skipper.

Massive changes, yes, and normally I am against that but the changes I mentioned won't/shouldn't drastically weaken the team against Grimsby.

If he goes 1-4-2-3-1, the 2 could be Hudds and Brys, front 4, Vydra, Nuge, Martin and Bennett.

Oh David Nugent, Oh David Nugent, we found him in Preston, we found him in Preston, we found him in Preston at the side of the road in a Volkswagen beetle............

we have a huge 27/28 man squad. Some are injured. Play any that didn't play on saturday would be my thoughts..to avoid injuries for saturday...and give them game time..which they need otherwise they wont be effective replacements when needed.

If Rowett is sure that 433 is his preferred formation (and I believe he is and is wrong), then he should stick as closely as possible to his first choice 11. The players are still not fully match fit, several are still getting used to the system and they need the confidence boost that a good result would bring.

Apparently Russell, Huddlestone, Bryson and Johnson are all injured so we're struggling to field a midfield three (surely this is the true 'Derby way). That should see a side looking something like this:

    Carson
    Wisdom Keogh Davies Forsyth
    Hanson
    Butterfield Elsnik
    Weimann Martin Vydra

Of course, if Rowett isn't fully committed to 433, then he should experiment a little, especially given the lack of numbers in midfield.

Oh, the old "they are injured"card so he can't be accused of purposely playing a weaker side LOL

I missed that news. What's up with Huddlestone ? Surely he hasn't booked his place in the treatment room already ?
