Grimsby 0-1 Derby (abandoned) reports and comments

Post by RRC on Tue 08 Aug 2017, 8:30 pm

Derby fielded an unfamiliar XI with just eight of the players who started on Saturday
against Sunderland. They lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Mitchell - Baird Keogh Pearce Olson - Butterfield Hanson - Anya Russell Bennett - Nugent

Subs: Carson, Wisdom, Elsnik, Weimann, Martin, Gordon, Bird

Grimsby had most of the possession and penned Derby in their own area in the opening
exchanges. On 5 minutes Keogh scored a fine headed goal from Butterfield's corner.
Butterfield (two) and Russell hit the Rams' only other on target shots, but all three
were well saved by the Grimsby keeper.

However the weather was the only winner: it had teemed down all day, showed no sign of
stopping, and the pitch was water-logged. On 19 minutes, after consulting both managers,
the referee took the players off, and ten minutes later he abandoned the match.

    I didn't think that we needed a "Man of the 19 Minutes" poll . . .

How about a "Man of the Season So Far" poll? LOL roll

Loved the team diving and sliding in the peno area in front of our fans. A great gesture. But who was it that didn't dive?
