Even better news about GEORGE THORNE -

Derby County midfielder George Thorne made a goalscoring return to Pride Park
Stadium on Friday night. Thorne was on target as the Rams' under-23 side beat
Sunderland 2-0 in Premier League Two Division One.

It was the 24-year-old's first appearance at Pride Park since breaking his leg more
than 15 months ago. Thorne is building up his fitness and got through 75 minutes
against Sunderland, having played the first half of the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea seven
    days earlier.

He struck in the 31st minute, drilling a crisp low shot into the bottom corner of the
net from outside the box. "It was a brilliant finish - and that's what you get with the
quality of somebody like George," said under-23 boss Darren Wassall. "He's just
coming back to fitness but he showed you never lose your ability - it was a class
touch on the edge of the box, he was composed, took his time and it was a
    fantastic finish.

Pleased to see GT is getting closer to full fitness, but it's a bit worrying to see Darren Wassall is involved. It was his stupid decision to risk GT in that meaningless end of season game against Ipswich that made it possible for him to get his injury.

Bradley Johnson and Sam Winnall are due to return to training today,
so the full squad may be available for selection against Burton.

Tom Lawrence will be out for a couple of weeks at best
but he could be out for three months at worst.

6 to 8 weeks better than 2 months? Wink I wish him well. However long it takes, JR is a decent enough Championship player to cover and he might just play well enough to make it impossible for Lawro to get straight back in when fit again. In the meantime, JR will need to play well as Bennett is fit again and has done well when used and has been given a contract extension by GR.

Time for JR to step up, however I think vs Villa Johnson will be preferred on the left of the 3 for a bit more bite

    I concur.

Especially if we are playing Martin, as they know each other's games better.

Joe Ledley and Tom Lawrence could be fit for Derby County's clash with Manchester United.

Both players missed yesterday's 1-1 draw with Sheffield United that kept Derby in the
    Championship's automatic promotion places.

Ledley has been absent with a stiff back and Lawrence sat out the Sheffield United game
    due to a hip injury.

Marcus Olsson would have started at left back against Sheffield United had he not been ill.

Olsson is expected to be available for the Manchester United game.

Joe Ledley might be back for the Blues game on Saturday but he is more likely to be available for the Bristol game.

BJ's back injury is looking worse than at first thought and he could be out for a while.

This might give Hanson a chance at game time in his proper position rather than at right back or right half.

GR is looking at ins and outs to strengthen the squad and get fringe players game time elsewhere....

Apparently Bradley Johnson has cracked a bone in his back and is therefore out for a significant period of time.

Sounds like a bad one. Out for the season ?

GR is probably having to rethink his transfer plans for January now.

What's up with Ledley? I can't find any updates on his injury. His presence in the side has seemingly been the most significant factor in our our win rate this year.

I think he is better Mitts as he has been on the bench for the last 3 games, off the top of my head, and came on in 2 of those games.

I was expecting based on statements made in mid-January that he'd be starting again by now. The stat sheet on Derby wins with hi as a starter vs. what happens when he isn't seems clear enough. I'm wondering if his remaining mostly on the bench is that his injury is actually lingering, he isn't fully match fit, or GR has somehow failed to notice that we win when he plays and draw when he doesn't.

1 more year after this on his contract. This season looks a write off if he is going to be out for 7 or 8 weeks. Free transfer in the summer I think.

Gary Rowett is keeping his fingers crossed that Derby County ace MATEJ VYDRA
could be fit to face Cardiff City this weekend.

Vydra, who is the Rams' top scorer with 18 goals in all competitions this season,
missed Sunday's goalless draw at Nottingham Forest due to a groin injury.
A similar problem ruled him out of the recent 3-3 draw at Reading and although
he completed the next game, the home defeat to Fulham, he was only fit enough
to make the bench against Queens Park Rangers last week. He came on for 10
minutes against QPR and after five minutes, he felt something in his groin.
