Where will Derby County finish? NEW POLL

Post by RRC on Sat 11 Nov 2017, 1:18 pm

Read what Gary Rowett thinks but what do you think? Please cast you vote above.

Asked what are the realistic ambitions, Rowett not only mentioned the top six but
also the top two. "After a third of the season, if you times your points by three you
get a rough reflection where you will be if you carry on in that form," he said.
"We would be on 75 points with a game to go which over the last six seasons would
get you on average into the play-offs. Of course, we would want a little bit more
than that. I think at the minute the aim is to maintain the level we are at, minimum,
and see if we can improve that little bit and challenge for the top two positions."

Here's where the teams would finish IF all of them got points at the same rate -

    1    Wolves . . . . 101
    2    Sheff U . . . . . 95
    3    Cardiff . . . .. . 89
    4    Bristol . . . . . . 86
    5    Derby . . . . . . 77
    6/7 Boro . . . . . . . 75
    6/7 Villa . . . . . .. . 75

Have you changed your mind since our poll before the season started?

After October I was confident of play offs maybe scrape 2nd but after last weekend even I'm not optimistic of play offs.

At the start of the season I was less optimistic about the playoffs as I am now. The January window could bring in a couple of players who will improve an already improving team that could nudge us and keep us in the top 6 by the end of the season. Fingers crossed

I voted for top half last time and I haven't changed my mind.

We're doing better than I feared - the signing of Davies, Ledley, Lawrence
and Winnall, and the change in formation from 4-3-3 have all helped.

I still don't think we're quite ready for a playoff place and the automatics
seem a very remote chance. The loss to Reading brought us down to earth.

Huddlestone doesn't really seem to fit what Rowett is trying to do now
in  a two man midfield. Maybe 4-4-2 would work better if Thorne joined
Lawrence, Ledley and Huddlestone in midfield, with Vydra abd Nugent
as the most likely striking pair.

We are not consistent enough in this scrappy league, even on present form, to gain more than 80 points this only warrants a playoff place, which I hope we don't win because we will get murdered in the PL.

Building on for the following season, to push hard with a strong squad and once promotion is achieved we should at least make a decent fist of it.

Hope GR is given that time and that he can take and use it effectively Super Rams

I can't remember what I'd put, and only Admins can follow the link.

I think I'll have gone for 7-12, or possibly 13-21.

I'm definitely in the 7-12 camp now.

Based on us being lucky to be where we are I am going top half at best. My thoughts may change if we get a couple of crackers in this January and we can move on some of those obviously out of the picture.

Lucky, I hear you ask. I feref you to the 7 game unbeaten streak we had. Brentford, who were bottom 2 had us on the rack and failed to put the ball away. Brum, also bottom 3 at the time, deserved at least the draw they got. Cardiff away saw us defend heroically and keep a clean sheet and in the last 20 could/should have nicked it. Red Dogs, despite that 24 seconds goal could have been 3-1 or 4-1 up by HT. DYS and Norwich were rearguard actione which we managed to turn round.....

We tried the same at Fulham. They had 71% possession first half and we had to soak up loads of pressure. They had 3 shots to our 0 first half but we can't continue to live dangerously in and around our own box and hope to get away with it time and again.

Possession for its own sake is of little use but with the players we have, we should be getting more ball and doing more with it.
