Out of contract 2018 - which players should go?

Post by RRC on Tue 14 Nov - 11:01

It looks as if ten players (listed in the POLL FORM above) will be out of contract
next summer (that's as far as I can tell).

Which ones would you release or try to sell and why?

Please click on the names in POLL FORM above or in the righthand column.

It's multiple choice, so you can choose from none up to all ten.

all but Thorne (providing he stays fit now) Russell and Fozzie.

Hanson hasn't stepped up - no one seems to want to give Rawson a chance - others are too expensive or too old or I haven't heard of them :-)

Baird possibly worth one more season - I'd agree on the others.

After his performance vs Fulham I would agree with your assessment of Baird. He's hasn't let us down whenever he has been asked to step up.

Is George Thorne injured again or is he on the way out? Not in squad yesterday and didn't play last u23 game v Forest! Personally I want him playing for us!

Thorne played the full 90 minutes for the U23s on Friday night.

He did not look fit, rarely getting out of a gentle trot - not like his old self at all.
Frankly his contribution was no more than average by our U23 standards.

Whether he's carrying a niggle or whatever, he's clearly not ready for the first team,
because he'd be a passenger. It's a shame, because he's a real asset at his best.

    MOTM on Saturday.

Limited? Yes. He ain't going to catch a whippet winger with his legs - but more often than not he will between the ears.

Mr Reliable,  never less than 7 or 8 out of ten.

To go, Baird and bent would be gone already if they hadn't met the reqs of a 1 year extension clause last season. I expect both to be gone by August.

Roos and Shackell both appear so far away from the 1st team no way will they get a shout. The same is true for Rawson

Russell and Forsyth are in contract talks and will stay.
Gordon is a young un and will get chances in the future. 20 next month.
Hanson stood in well when GT did his ACL with us. Not been that brilliant since as he has spent a lot of time on the bench, in the treatment room or playing anywhere and everywhere but DM. Good as cover but we need to ask the question of do we need a 5th DM? Undecided about him.
GT...... the old cunundrum. Obviously he is a brilliant player when fit. Can we get him, and then keep him, fit? If the answer is yes then he is a shoe in for a 3 year extension. If it's a no then let him go. Undecided come May? Then a 1 year extension if he seems to be on the mend, and a guaranteed extension if he plays more than 20 League games next season. Payment should be on a pay when you play basis at this season's rate with between 0 and 1K a week if unfit.
