    Spot the difference

Post by Loughborough Ram on Tue 16 Jan 2018, 7:44 pm

Under McLaren we were signing players on long term contracts, effectively putting a millstone around the clubs neck.

Now under Rowett and a smarter Mel Morris we are signing important senior players like Ledley and hopefully Jerome, on short term deals. To me we just seem like we are beginning to understand the need for some kind of cohesive, sustainable plan rather than just throwing money around like it doesn't matter.

I'm sure that Rowett would argue that he has. After all if you wanted to spread butter on bread would you rather have a knife or a spoon?

Jerome will probably be far more useful in Rowetts system than Martin, but that doesn't mean that Martin is no good, just that he isn't what we need.

    FFP at a guess.

McClaren and others were allowed spend as if money was going out of fashion
and DCFC haven't been able to recoup enough money by selling their expensive
signings to finance more big spending. Until that happens, or we are promoted,
economical signings are the only way forward for the club.

Martin is a case in point. He's a fine player but it seems the club gave him an over
generous contract. So far no other club apperars willing match the terms that the
club needs for a sale. If so, that's a big chunk of cash tied up and a hole in the funds
which club can spend on new players. Of course he is far from the only one, so
the club's transfer options are severely limited.

If he isn't what we need, why has he contributed to our system very well this season coning on and creating numerous chances and looking the part.

I could spread my butter with a spoon but it isn't what I need.

GR has been after Jerome before so he knows what he has got and I don't believe he would go after someone who is going to disrupt the harmony this group has.

Winnall had stories about being a hot head and a disruptor. The hot head we have seen in some rash challenges. The disruptor has been invisible. GR had managed the lad before.....

People questioned the Ledley signing........ point made?

Jerome and Vydra could be a top partnership in this league.

A man upfront who can hold the ball even for a little while and create a little space for runners, like Vids JR and Andy W. will be a major asset IMHO, and stop us relying so heavily on a defensive set up.

I personally would not play him v Brizzle, but allow him a chance to view the passages of play and see where in his own mind he can adapt and create.

Surely that's what Nugent gives(when he plays)

I'd be happy to sit him down in a footballing based Mensa test with Coldplay and I know who'd win.

Regardless, He may still be more valuable.

Chris martin is history soon guys - not many of us - if we are honest - wanted to sign him as he was a fat lazy fall over forward who didn't score and it worked out ok

Rowett is achieving results and seems to be putting a hard working team together that want to play for each other - the signings have been low budget mostly and the one I have most doubts about is the most expensive - lets see if he works out before passing judgement.

The team seem to be doing well with Martin as 3rd choice striker anyway....
