Here's the official DCFC titter -

Rowett has confirmed that Johnny Russell has indictated a desire
to move to the MLS this month, and has rejected contract offers.

Does that mean the McLean deal has been agreed to then? Has Johnny thrown the toys out of his pram?

Hmmmm. McLean 1 goal per 8 appearances throughout his career (1 in 10 in the PL, 1 in 8 SBC). Russell 1 in 4 career and 1 in 5 for Derby (Figures rounded up/down).

Fans say JR doesn't have enough end product........ is McLean the answer? Computer says no.

This is a massive blow for the club. There's no two ways about it.

As an outlet and for creating chances, he is pivotal to the way we play and at this stage of the season, probably irreplaceable.

he must have been approached if he is determined to go this month - no indication from GR that anyone has approached the club.

Like his attitude and work rate but I don't think he is going to be massively missed

Wouldn't say he'll be irreplaceable but I agree with you in the rest of your sentiment, it's is a very poor time for the Rams to lose a player who has shown the ability to perform at this level.

This makes the Anya situation even more odd. To me there's been little to chose between Anya and Russell - Both work hard, provide forward momentum and are good defensively, but both tend to make poor final decisions.

If JR was thinking of leaving, why hasn't Anya been given some minutes on the pitch to show what he can do for Rowett?

Noooooo not Johnny. Most industrious player we have on the pitch never say die attitude you cannot replace. Gutted. My sons favorite player too means he is going to learn the heartbreak that comes when you realize players don't stay for life.

Think he’s been one of our best players of late with real good energy.
Not to mention I imagine he’s one of the best characters in the dressing room.
Can’t see us getting anyone in at this stage..I always figured the young lad in the reserves would see some action this season I think he just took another step closer.
I wish Russell all the best he put in plenty of work for DCFC..MLS is average at best he will probably be a star over here but needs to choose his club wisely.
Not the best of times to be coming to the USA either.

Assuming that neither side is hiding anything thats been said previously I think this is really disappointing from Russell. To say that he wants to leave two days before the window closes leaves us in a bit of a mess.

If the club have sat on this for a while then fair enough but if he never had any intention of signing a new contract then I think hes let the club and all of the fans that have back him through plenty of lean times, down.

Probably the abuse he hears from the ground and negative comments on social media etc have swayed his decision, unfortunately that’s the modern way
Splits fans on his day, unplayable but shows the other side too often and is inconsistent, we can move on and do better imo
Good luck in the USA and that goal vs the red dogs will live long in the memory

I don't think he splits fans at the groundd, the vast majority love him. On forums like this we are in danger of thinking that our opinions are important in the overall scheme of things, but a handful of 'keyboard know it alls' are often irrelevant when it comes to the overall feelings of the majority.

Rowett intimidated in his latest press conference that they've known Russell was wanting to go to the MLS for 2 or 3 weeks. Reading between the lines it may be that an MLS team has only just confirmed an interest to the club over the last day or so. I wish Jonny well but I don't think he's irreplaceable & hope we have enough time left to find an adequate replacement.

Does his contract run out at the end of January? If not, we don't have to let him go and I'd assume GR would only do so if he think we've either enough in the squad or he's got a replacement - hopefully improvement - lined up.

I like Johnny's attitude on the pitch, but I think, like Weimann, he's capable of a good game and a bad one, and isn't consistent enough (therefore not good enough) for a team hoping for automatic promotion. So I hope his going allows us to get an improvement in. Not James McLean though! I don't mind his politics, but think he's a horrible player.

According to the DET Russell has agreed terms with Kansas City and we will recieve around £250,000 but we will also have a sell on clause.

I think Luke Thomas will make the squad now.
Think it’s too late to bring anyone in in this window unless you can find a promising loan .
If not why not throw the kid on the bench it’s easier to find your feet on a team that’s doing well.
