    GTS v Sheffield Wednesday (A)

Post by RRC on Sun 11 Feb 2018, 10:47 pm

Sheffield Wednesday haven't won for seven matches, a run which has
left them just 6 points above the drop zone. They've only taken two
points from their last six games at Hillsborough - one of those points
came from a 0-0 draw with Cardiff. Only Preston have got as many
draws (13) as the Wendies this season.

Derby won the match at PPS in October by 2-0, but their task became
a lot easier when Glen Loovens was sent off after 4 miniutes and Vydra
    scored the resultant penalty.

Please post your forecast before the 7.45 kickoff on Tuesday.

This game will tell us a lot about our chances of staying in the race for automatic promotion. We can't seem to win at home so it's vital we win away.

SW would appear to be ideal opponents just now, in a poor run of form and with a big FA Cup tie at the weekend.

    SW 0 Rams 1

That was my impression too, but I checked -

    last 7 home games - W 4 D 3 (draws with Bristol, Sheff U and Norwich, total goals 2-2)
    last 7 away games - W 4 D 3 ( draws with Brentford, Millwall and Hull, total goals 1-1)

    Imho it seems that -

    1. We can't beat the better teams home or away (only Villa so far and that was at home).

    2. Our away record is good because we don't often lose - W 7 D 6 L  2 = 27 points from 45.
There are six others with 7 or more away wins, but only Wolves have more away points.

    3. Our home record is slightly better - W 9 D 4 L 3 = 31 points from 48.
There are four others with 9 or more wins, but only Wolves and Villa with more home points.

    4. Our draws are low scoring - 0-0 or 1-1 - where we struggle to score but don't concede many.
Our substitutes tend to be like for like, so rarely make any difference in stalemate situations.

I haven't been picking scores all year, and I won't start now. But I will say that the team sheet needs to read Carson, Wisdom, Davies, Keogh, Olsen, Ledley, Huddlestone, Palmer, Vydra, Anya, Nugent. I would have Weimann ready to come on at roughly the hour mark, or if he starts have Palmer ready at the same point. Likewise, Jerome and Nugent seem basically interchangeable. I'd switch them according to match readiness. Jerome played on Saturday so I'd give Nugent the trot out this time, but I can't say that I feel strongly about one's merits over the other in the abstract.

I think this is our best side; anything else = playoffs.

I would be furious if we don't win this. They have 12 first team players crocked, have conceded in 80% of their home games and not won at home since October.
