    Forsyth vs Olsson

Post by SawleyRam on Wed 28 Feb 2018, 10:44 am

Window is closed and experience is needed so the left back position is down to two realistic choices even if you think both are not ideal for our current position and like GR you have to pick one, who is that and why presuming both are fit?

Where is the "neither is good enough" option?

Olsson is a bit better going forward but has forgotten the marking part of his job.
Forsyth is a bit better defending but has forgotten how to cross when he gets forward.

    Horses for courses, I suppose.
Against an attacking side like Fulham, I'd play Forsyth.
    Against a park-the-bus side, I'd play Olsson.

Does anyone think that GR actually plans for the team that we're due to play
or does he just pick what he sees as our best eleven at the time (which may
not be the same thing)? I always wondered if our slump under SM was due to
our trying to play the same way regardless of the type of opposition, especially
when it was obvious they'd sussed how to stop us..

Fozzy v Ollie? They'd both lose LOL

Both fully fit Fozzy has to be the answer but he isn't and hasn't been all season. Will he ever be is an importnant question.

Horses for courses indeed RRC. I don't see Wolves or Fulham or Villa or Cardiff parking the bus against us and Fozzy would be my choice against those sides. Ollie against the serila bus parkers and take your pick for the other games.

Forsyth is not the player he was before his injury...nor is George Thorne. But I would pick both of them above Olsson and Ledley

I don't think Forsyth was actually that good before his injury, it's just that he was a little bit better than the few left backs we'd had before and around that time. I'm thinking of Naylor, Warnock and Moxey before that. Any others even worse of recent years I've forgotten?

I would go for Forsyth. Better defensively, more height and would probably get better going forward with a number of games in a row. Olson at fault for both goals against Leeds

    I'd pick Forsyth first.

I'd also pick Forsyth second, third and fourth.

Got to admit it is Fozzy for me as well, he does add that bit more in defensive dead ball situations with his height and heading ability.

Forsyth v Olsson has the ring of two bald headed men fighting over a comb.

Neither are good enough for a team that's serious about promotion, but on the basis that a full back's first job is to defend properly and stop crosses coming in I'd go for Forsyth.

He's also a lot taller, which is always handy.
