I have given credit to the manager in my posts.

It does amuse me though how you and others think that we are this top Championship club with a squad full of top players.

You put so much on finishing in the top 6.

No, I won't 'change my tune' if we manage to hang on and finish in the top 6. My tune being that we are an average side, that we have ridden our luck this season, that we have a manager doing a good job, that we play a very dour brand of football, and that we have no youth in our squad.

I have said the same points ALL season.

What points exactly do you disagree with?

I agree with the above points and I would add another, namely that with the exception of loanee Palmer we have no pace whatsoever in our midfield.

Teams are able to run away from us far too easily, as Fulham painfully demonstrated.

    I agree.

I would also add that we lack pace all over the pitch. GR seems intent on selling any players with that virtue. I guess that is what happens when you fill a squad with over 30's players.

The last 10 games (home and away) indicates about where our squad is at, and gives us a fair indication of where we'll end up next season. That being 13th.

Everything is so average at Derby, MM must wonder just what his millions has achieved. Absolutely bugger all.

    Hmmm, stuff to ponder.

    No pace?

    Weimann? Pacy
    Lawrence? Pacy
    Anya? Pacy
    Wisdom? Pacy
    Keogh? Pacy
Lowe? Pacy but out on loan
    Bennett? Pacy but injured

According to a recent GR interview, Hudds, BJ, Ledley and GT are the players covering the most ground over 90 minutes when they play. Now, I don't consider any of them to look pacy but to regularly be doing the most miles in a game they must have some speed.............. curious and thought provoking.

Fact is we're NOT conceding many more goals now than earlier in the season.
We probably didn't notice this  much while we were scoring enough goals to win regularly.
In the last 6 home and 6 away games we've averaged just under ONE conceded BUT
scored only ONE goal per game on average.

Imho the reason we keep getting worse after the halfway point in the season
is that teams have played us once and their managers have worked out how
to counter our strengths and exploit our weaknesses. They've learnt from the
    experience but we haven't.

Every team, even the best, have weaknesses as well as strengths. Our problem
seems to be that we have had inflexible managers who only seem to know one
way to play - all out attack for Mclaren and over-emphasis on defence for Rowett.
New ideas and change seem to be anathema to them.

Is it impossible for us to adapt and plan to exploit the weaknesses of our opponents?
There are other systems besides 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1, so why can't we try something
different, instead of staying in a rut and paying the penalty.

What's that quote about doing the same thing and expecting a different result?

I do think though that while Vydra and Nugent were banging in the goals, it was quite seriously hiding our deficiencies in other areas of the pitch.

Scoring aside, our performances in recent games haven't deteriorated.

I don't think a change of formation is called for though. While I was crying out for it under Steve Mc, I don't think that Rowett has the personnel to play in a different formation. I am of the opinion that he is getting the very best out of what he has (in part) given himself.

If you were a manager of one of our promotion rivals which of our current squad would you think could improve yours

    Fulham

Fulham's slight weakness is at centre back and dealing with high balls,
so Curtis Davies should be an improvement.

Most of our midfield and attackers would only weaken Fulham, because
our players wouldn't be able to play fast, one-touch, possession style.

I think I've already answered this many times on other threads.

    Only Vydra.

Would Vydra improve Wolves, Cardiff or Fulham? I don't think so.

Those three teams usually play 4-3-3, a formation that has no need for a No. 10
sitting behind the front three. If you remember, Vydra didn't do well when Derby
played 4-3-3, because there is no role in that system to suit his style of play.

So no, I don't think you did really answer his question, because you didn't say what team
Vydra would improve. I'd suggest Preston, who play 4-2-3-1 like us, but they're doing quite
well without Vydra and, at present, we're not doing so well with him.
