According to Glasgow Rangers we wanted Scott Arfield on a free but he chose them instead.

I know it's more than a tad revolutionary but this is what I would do .............

    1. Decide how we are going to play, which system. Making sure that it is both successful and entertaining
    2. Which players do we have that either don't fit that system and/or have passed their sell by date. Get rid
    3. Which players do we need to play that system? Go out and get them.

Too Utopian? Probably but I have seen too much of this defend the last 30 and then hope for a counter. I want to see us defend when necessary and attack the rest (most) of the time.
A mix between Mac's gung ho and GR's safety first approach.

The last 5 words of point 3 depend entirely on the last 2 words of point 2, and as we've seen we have little or no control over those 2 words.

If, as seems likely, we have to sell before we can buy then we've probably seen the last of Vydra in a Rams shirt.

As Golden Boot winner he should fetch a hefty price, but it remains to be seen whether the club's negotiating skills can pull off a seriously big deal.

the noises coming from GR are that expectations are already being managed lower

However I am quite excited by the opportunity this gives to NOT buy "established" championship players - lets get some young, hungry unheard of talent from the lower leagues and do our best to shift the huge forest of dead wood we have draining the resources.

Lets hope McClown comes in for a few of his favourites and pays top dollar.

There are plenty we need to just get rid of - Butterscotch leads the charge there
Others that over over priced for their contribution - think Bradley Johnson
Others that have legs made of glass - George Thorne
Others that we could do with an upgrade - most of the squad
Ones we may need to cash in on to strengthen the team (first team not padding out the squad) - Can only think Carson and Vydra would bring in good cash now.

Big changes - without knowing the ins and outs my early next season prediction is same as this one 8th-12th

I've heard from a semi-reliable source that the Winnall-Butterfield swap deal was due to be made permanent at the end of the season. It is subject to a medical so we have a get out clause if we want to. We're still hoping to complete the deal as it gets rid of Butterfield, but we're doing some more medical tests to make sure that Winnall is on track to make a full recovery.

if he doesn't go to the same resilience school as George Thorne then I too would be happy.

Mind you Winnal sitting on a physio's table would still contribute more than butterscotch

The problem is that SW may not want to take him. Apparently even they aren't that stupid.

Coming back from the Barnsley game me and Stockers got talking to this SW fan. When the subject of taking Butters permanently came up he turned purple and nearly choked on his chip butty.

I'd love that deal, it seems Winnall was recovering well.

John Percy (usually reliable) in The Telegraph thinks these five Derby players are for sale -
    - Vydra
    - Carson
    - Keogh
    - Martin
    - Anya
because Mel Morris is determined to reduce the wage bill.

Has to be the right price though, the 8 mill I see being talked about for Vydra is just not enough and shouldnt be considering there should be a bunch of clubs trying to get him.
Pretty sure he will go though, from his viewpoint all the noises are about cutting the wage bill meaning we wont get any better and he will think he did everything possible to get us promoted and was let down by the rest which is fair enough.

John Percy gets pretty much 100% right about the Rams. That's a pretty odd article though.

£8m for Vydra? Are things so bad that we need to sell him cheaply to attract a buyer early. I've been told that we had to take a low figure for Hughes as we needed the transaction to go into 16-17 season accounts to meet FFP. We could have got more for him, but didn't have time to negotiate.

Carson for sale? If that's the club's decision it is appalling. He's been our best Keeper since Poom and a large part of why we made the top 6. The only logical explanation that I can see is that the player wants another shot at the Premier League and maybe an England shirt before he gets too old - which is fair enough.

I think that it's time for Keogh to move on. The last thing we need is a sulky ex-skipper whose been the common factor in bottle after bottle.

I'd be amazed if Martin and Anya weren't up for sale. Yet I could say the same for Butterfield, Bryson, Blackman, Pearce, Mitchell, Thorne and Ledley.

With all of the noises about cost cutting, I'd also be quite surprised if Gary Rowett is still here next season.

Whilst agreeing with most of the outs mentioned with one or two I would be a little concerned to whom they would be sold.

Keogh: We know his failings but what about his strengths? One of the best in the Championship when on form, would you like to play against that player?

Martin: As above but in a flowing 4-3-3 and on form would you like to play against him?

Bryson: If his mojo and fitness are back, nightmare to mark.

I agree with them going just not to top clubs in the same division though. It could work against us.

Apparently Winnall’s signing was meant to be a permanent just that a loan deal was easier to do
on deadline day. I’ll be very surprised if he’s not one of a Rowett’s first permanent signings.

Butterfeet, on the other hand, I have no idea about. League Two somewhere probably
