Chris Coleman, he got a team to play way above their ability to a semi final and good man management

I still think the brothers at Lincoln - success every season with year on year improvement and knowledge of the lower leagues in an area close to us to help unearth the next vardy/ali

please god not igor - with the exception of Big Davy Mac (and lets face it with the team he inherited I could have had success with) our ex players as boss have not worked.

Please no more choosing managers for sentimental reasons. It makes no sense to do
the same thing again and again when it hasn't got us promoted.

Sign the best available person who will suit Derby in its current state, which is strapped
for cash and forced to to sell some of the better players.

Of those in the betting, Dean Smith (Brentford) looks like the best fit. He's done
very well at Brentford on limited resources and they play attractive football.

It may be a case of beggars can't be choosers this time around. As fans, we see
Derby very favourably but others may see us as a club that has long term problems,
that have stopped us from being promoted for years despite all the cash we've spent.

From someone who has been reliable about DCFC's matters, Lampard's appointment will be announced tomorrow.

EDIT: Again, not my source, and perhaps not an announcement tomorrow, but from what I heard, it's very close.

IMO if it does happen, it is a case of self-handicapping on the part of MeltdownMorris.

Self-handicapping is a cognitive strategy by which people obstruct their own chance of success, in the hopes of keeping potential failure from hurting self-esteem.

By appointing someone who has even less experience than then-noob Paul Clement, MeltdownMorris could attribute potential failures to Lampard's inexperience -- "see, there's nothing wrong with DCFC, it's just him being inexperienced (and we want to give young British coaches opportunities)."

The upside of getting Lampard... could be a couple of tasty loan players coming in... must have some decent contacts and going on Derby's fantastic history of signings/ dealings.... it cannot be any worse Clapping

If it was Lampard, the biggest plus would be his ability to attract players. It might just make Derby an attractive proposition after all this summer when it was looking like no one would sign for us as we are trimming the spending

Or Gerry Ryan, all three signings by Tommy Docherty if memory serves me well, a man so inept that I'd put him at the very top of any list of Derby Countys worst ever managers.

    He has no peer, LR.

He took a Miley Cyrus wrecking ball to the beautiful team I loved as a pre teen.

A Catherine wheel up his aged jacksi would not alleviate the pain for me......but it might help a little... in a completely inappropriate and unacceptable way.

I apologise in advance to the pc brigade amongst us.

He did ruin us though, didn't he.

I can't think of any worse choice than Lampard.

Not only does he have no managerial experience, he's never even been a coach.

The chances of him succeeding are remote. However, it's just possible he might do well. If we're in the top six at Christmas, he'll just leave for Premier League team and we'll be back to square one.

I'd rather have Billy back than Lampard, and I'd rather tell Tyson Fury to his face that his behavior is a direct result of his repressed homosexuality than have Billy back.

Who ever it is a section of our fans base first response will be negative .
Even if we said we were bringing Brian Clough back from the dead and signing him to a ten year deal someone would have something negative to say.
Good luck to who ever it is..he will need it.
I believe Morris will be sold up in the next two years..I just hope he cares enough to get us some true wealthy backers.

I don't MM sticking around long for either. I am guessing this is not what he thought it would be when he bought Derby.

Frank Lampard or Dean Smith ? An interesting choice (if only on paper).

One has lots of relevant experience in managing outside the PL, the other is an ex-England international totally at home in the TV studio but a bit short of experience in the lower leagues. Or anywhere else, actually.

It will be fascinating to see who gets the nod this time.

If it is Lampard then the most important thing he will do is the appointment of his right hand man.

Get it right and Mel could have pulled off a stroke of genius, get it wrong and his managerial career could be over before it started.

That is a concern but, on the plus side, Lampard has played under a wide range of good managers
and coaches, and he seems intelligent enough to have learned from them --

Rafael Benitez, Roberto Di Matteo, Andre Villas-Boas, Carlo Ancelotti, Guus Hiddink, Felipe Scolari,
Avram Grant, Jose Mourinho, Claudio Ranieri and Harry Redknapp.

Lampard doesn't strike me as a big head or someone with a closed mind, so I'm hopeful that he
knows he will need good advice, help and support - and where to find it.

Apart from that, it's fingers crossed . . . again Fingers crossed
