Your choice for next Derby manager? POLL

Post by RRC on Wed 23 May 2018, 12:52 pm

I've tried to list everyone in the betting plus all those who've been mentioned in COYR
with their current club if they have one (which could demand a compensation payment).

If I've missed someone you'd prefer, please post ONE NAME and tell us why.

The poll will be open until someone is appointed -- please let it be soon . . .

I put someone else, the who? If he would leave Holland I'd go for....................MadAmster, he has his coaching badges and in the day of the merry go round of the same old managers why not someone who has fresh ideas and does genuinely believe in Derby County. Tongue in cheek comment but I hope you get the sentiment.

Dean Smith (Brentford) looks like the best fit for Derby's current state,
which is probably a bit better than Brentford's. At least he'd be likely
to get us playing entertaining football but he might be keener on the
West Brom job as he comes from there.

Tbh I'm not sure why any manager who already has a decent job would
want to sign for Derby with all the negative noises around DCFC now.
It seems quite likely that we'll be stuck with Hobson's Choice from all
    the usual suspects.

Igor was on radio Derby this morning saying that he wants the job and that Mel has his number.

He said that he would demand that the players show more desire and that some of them are lazy. Not sure that is the best way to endear yourself to the players if he did get the job.

Sorry Sawls but these days you need Level 4 badge as well and I only did Levels 1 to 3.

Of those mentioned in the list above there is a sentimental pairing that might work, that of Stimac and Eranio. The new Clough and Taylor? Might work.

Simmo we know from his time with us as SM's assistant as well as his playing days. Youth World Cup win to his name so he knows his stuff. Might work.

Another name that hasn't appeared in the betting or rumours as yet is Lee Carsley. He might be a decent bet.

A Simmo/Carso partnership could also be a winner.

Apart from these sentimental thoughts we could also look at Danny Cowley, Warburton, Dean, O'Neill, Johnson, Cook. All of these are in the list above and might be what we need.

Lampard is an interesting name but totally inexperienced and I don't see MM hiring him.

The rest of the list are no no's for me, including Wassall.

Sorry, but I can't tell from reading your post.

I have no one single choice RRC. I have put up what I think might work and the ones I most definitely don't want. Sorry I can't be more definite than that.

If any of the ones/pairs I have put up as possibles is chosen I will be reasonably happy. Any of the others will see me looking for positives. For instance, a 2nd spell for Wassall will see me looking at his knowledge of the Academy players and how best to integrate them into the first team.

If it is someone not on the list at all is appointed I will have to evaluate them.......

I'd be happy with Smith. I don't think he'd be happy with us. Brentford's approach to acquiring players is miles away from ours. I like his style of play though.

    That would certainly be interesting.

I think it would be a mistake on his part, in view of Mel statement about available funds this summer. I also wonder whether this is wise on our part considering that it was widely reported that his move to Ipswich fell through because they were miles apart on wages.

When and if confirmed I will consider it a massive gamble.
It will certainly mean the media spotlight will be firmly on the Rams and I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

the joys of being a rams fan - I am sticking with the Lincoln City lads - the next Brian Clough - success in lower leagues - signing for Derby when we are a bit down in the dumps in the second tier - champions league here we come (unless we have some irregular accounting and get banned for a year)

I saw several different sources of the Lampard rumour yesterday. If we can give him the huge amount he wants dependent on him being able to cut twice that off the wage bill with only a small net spend on transfers then we can afford him.

Affordability and the Daily Wail rumour that we are losing £3M a month were the reasons I wrote MM wouldn't look at Lamps yesterday.

Just maybe our financial woes are not as bad as the Wail said yesterday............

I hear it's always been Lampard's ambition to manage DCFC, so it's just a matter of finding sackfuls of money to give him and we're sorted.

    Oh...

I think Big Sam has the most proven ability of anyone talked about, but Dean Smith seems a good fit too. Honestly I'd be happy to have Clough back. He should never have been sacked. In five years what has that decision gained us?

The Lampard rumours are getting stronger. I'm just not feeling it. I can see no possible benefits for the club. It'll turn us into an even bigger circus and he'll be gone by January anyway.

I'm not sure exactly why, but I would actually prefer anyone other than Lampard. I always thought he was a boring player, now he's possibly about to start using our quint little club as his stepping stone to managing a proper club.

I can think of bout 20 realistic options who I'd be pleased with, another hundred who I'd be neutral about. And just one that I feel truly hostile towards and he's the apparent front runner.

If he can persuade Christiano Ronaldo, Bale and Suarez (teeth and all) to be our forward line next season............. LOL roll

My first impression was we can't afford him. He will want a big salary. He will want a warchest. Rumour, innuendo and the Daily Wail would have us believe we don't have any.

Was MM bluffing when he told GR the cupboard was bare?

As ever with Derby there are more questions than answers. If Lamps does come in on a big salary and gets to buy players then MM has pulled of a genuine coup.

I'm the opposite Corny, I can't think of a single candidate that excites me greatly so if it's Lampard, fine, why not. I think that players have evolved since many of us played, they are so precious that they don't respond to the stick anymore, they seem to want somebody that they can relate to and look up to, which may well be an advantage to somebody like Lampard.

Overall I think that managing the Rams is a big ask for a first timer but hey, you just never know it might turn out to be a masterstroke. If not don't worry, we'll only be paying him off with Stokes money.

To be fair the fans have got the man they want for the last couple of appointments, the overwhelming majority wanted Pearson and the same can be said for Rowett and neither proved to be the answer so personally, I'm happy to go with whoever we get.
