    Lampard has signed 3-year contract

Post by RRC on Thu 31 May 2018, 10:40 am

Frank Lampard said: “I’m excited to be making my first move into management
with a club with such huge tradition and history.

“I have spent considerable time discussing the role and the club’s objectives
with the Chairman Mel Morris CBE and the board. We want to build on the club’s
top six finish in the Championship last season, while at the same time bringing
through some of the excellent youth and Academy talent we have at Pride Park.

“This is my first job as a manager but I’ve been working towards this for a long
time. I’ve worked closely with some of the best coaches in the game and I’m
confident in my own abilities and those of the team around me.

“I know it won’t be easy – managing a football team never is – but I’m here to work
hard. I’m really looking forward to getting started and to the challenge ahead."

I'm really going to try not to pick everything Lampard does to bits. I'd give every other new manager coming in with a squad overhaul needed and no money to spend 2 seasons unless we looked in relegation trouble. I'll do the sane with Lampard - and it won't be plain sailing. He'll make mistakes along the way and it'll take time for the players to get used to his ideas and a couple of windows to filter the squad.

    BUT

Why on Earth is he still going to spend a month at the World Cup when the transfer window closes on August 9th?

His backroom staff is key. I wouldn't expect any manager to manage us on his own let alone someone just starting out, so the support he gets is going to be vital. I don't think that it's essential that he brings in an old head but he needs like minded people who he trusts.

One encouraging comment I heard on Talksport this morning was about Jody Morris. Somebody said that he would help getting in a few Chelsea youngsters because he knows all about them, and Perry Groves said "trust me, he knows about every player in the country at that level.

I'm excited and looking forward to something new, he's a smart and likeable bloke and hopefully he'll be an inspired appointment and personally I'll be happy to see a cohesive long term plan even if we aren't challenging near the top of the league.

It’s called Aeroplanes and phones mate...if it was in Mexico I could see it being a issue.

I, for one, am extremely excited about this appointment. He may not have managerial experience but he knows how a dressing room works, he’s highly intelligent, he’s won almost everything there is to win and he’s arguably the best midfielder England has ever had. I’m happy.

I have a very good feeling about this manager.

Some people attract good things by their sheer determination like a magnet.

If we get all parties acting together, we can get this club where it belongs (in PL obscurity) LOL roll

Closes earlier according to radio derby, the 2nd August with the first game on the 4th, unfortunately he’s committed to punditry at the World Cup

Could be. Bryson, if fit enough, plays that particular midfield role very much in the style of Lamps himself. Not as well mind. Lamps might be just the gaffer to get the best out of Bryson.

Coldplay? Not necessarily because you can play 1-4-3-3 without a Martin type target man.

Lamps also seems committed to bringing the young uns on. I am with him all the way on the way.

I think fans won't have a high expectations with FL charge than if a big manager came in. Most I have spoken to (Not on here) feel like we on to some thing speacia l could happen.
Not sern excitement since SMC first appointment .

Yes some will say why ? In experienced manager ... but who got excited with pearson clements even rowett.

If he fails he only joins experienced mangers that have to

I always remember the day I heard we had signed Charlie George. I just simply couldn't believe it and thought it was some big pi$$ take.
He took us to new dimensions, kicking the a$$ of Real Madrid etc

I am getting this vibe about Frankie boy. Hope this is as true as it was back then, before I go to the great Wembley in the sky I just wanna see us winning matches against the Liverpools and the Spurs again.
Not by attrition, but by being the best team on the pitch.

Is it so much to ask Pray

I long ago got tired of all the football talk.
You can build something up but it’s only ever about the results.
If being a good manager was all about their playing experience then Bobby Moore and Bobby Charlton would have been brilliant managers.
But what I do like about Frank was the drive determination dedication and desire to make himself a better player.
For that he reminds me a little of Kevin Keegan and he did ok as a manager..was certainly entertaining .

Now FL confirmed the backroom staff will be changed to what level... would a big clear out from assistant coaches to u16 u21 etc to scouting. A clear out of alot in my opinion won't be bad move.

Uncle Harry as cheif scout may not be bad move

lets give him 2 years - see what the next 3 transfer windows bring and then judge - I have no expectation of the play-offs next year as we are likely to lose our top scorer and the midfield is another year older and slower....
