    Cheating Juve

Post by New England Ram on Thu 07 Jun 2018, 2:58 pm

Was there that night and totally forgot how much we dominated the game.
Fantastic insight into a packed BBG for those too young to remember .
I had never seen highlights of this game before.

PP can rock at times, nowhere near often enough though, but I doubt it will ever get anywhere near the cauldron that was the BBG. I had watched, totally amazed, at how they got penalties, seemingly at the drop of a hat over there and also saw, first hand, how we were refused 2 nailed on penalties. We all know why that was as well.

2nd leg. We get an early doors penalty. Hinton? I had never seen him miss one to the best of my recollection. Why oh why that night for the first miss? If that had gone in, I am convinced we would have rolled Juve over and then gone on to stop Ajax completing a hattrick of European Cup wins.

    All conjecture of course.

I had forgotten just how badly he had missed..only saw him miss once before when he had one saved v Sheff Utd .
Unbelievable how much we dominated ..these days they wouldn’t have finished with nine men let alone eleven.
Instead Big Rog was the only early departure..mind you Rog had nailed a few himself prior to his head job.

Thanks for the memories, NER. Some of the tackling (from both teams) made me wince, and I'd forgotten how many clear cut chances we missed. Even Peter Daniel had the opportunity to be a hero, but blew it.

Missing that penalty had a bad effect on Hinton. I don't think he ever quite got over it. Toddy played the 'libero' role to perfection, and there were no weak links in the team.

Of course, as investigations proved, we never really had a chance. We were done up like a kipper by the ref in the first leg when he booked Roy Mac and Archie causing them to miss the return game.

What would we give to see such quality attacking football these days ?

Watched this as a lad frpm the boy's pen, and have never seen it "on the telly" before.

First 15, nothing much from either team, but then the Rams started to assert themselves, at which point the dirt arrived. As well as at least two other penalties, possibly three, there should have been at least two Juve players sent off. The first one to nail John O'hare should have been straight off, but it wasn't to be. Interesting that the ref kept giving free-kicks by the boat load, many of which I have no idea what for. What we didn't see was all the off-the-ball stuff, including the spitting which went on.

    If only ...............

By the way, that Ron Webster was a bit useful, wasn't he?

I was in the lads end as well Dave..and funny enough Webster was the player that caught my eye as well..certainly forgot just how solid he was.
I can only ever remember Tommy Hutchinson giving him a run around.
