How Jody Morris wants Derby to play

Post by RRC on Wed 13 Jun 2018, 11:14 pm

Jody Morris has explained his decision to join Frank Lampard at Derby County.
The Rams' assistant manager says he and his former Chelsea team-mate share
the same vision when it comes to how their teams should play football. Morris
joined the club last week following Lampard's appointment at the end of May.
He leaves Chelsea's youth setup having guided their under-18s side to success-
    ive FA Youth Cup titles.

"It's one of the reasons why we have always spoke about working together,
because we see football the same way," Morris told RamsTV. "We believe that it
should be played attractively with a high intensity, with everybody working with
humility, with no superstars in the team. "We want to get after the ball and win
it back as soon as possible, and we want to protect it and use it well. "You don't
want to keep possession for no reason, you want to use the ball intelligently and
    hurt the opposition."

Morris is itching to get going, but he'll have to wait. The Rams squad aren't
expected to return for pre-season until the end of the month. And the former
Leeds, Millwall and Bristol City midfielder is looking forward to putting his and
Lampard's stamp on the side. But he says he doesn't want to depart too far from
the qualities that have seen Derby finish in the play-offs in three of the last five
    seasons.

"I can't wait! It's frustrating at the moment, there are a lot of phone calls and
trips up to Derby to sort little things out. It's like you have the engine revving,
but the handbrake is on. I love being amongst the players out on the grass so the
first day of pre-season can't come soon enough, and I know that Frank is the same.
We want to put our own stamp on the team, the players and the way that we set
up against the opposition in the Championship. The consistency of making the play-
offs has been as good as anybody in recent years, so that’s a good foundation to
build on. There will be changes, but we won’t come too far away from some of the
things that have served this club well."

Manager and Assistant singing the same tune. If they deliver what they appear to want to even 10th place will have been enjoyable due to watching good football. Top 6 with good football would be better and top 2 would be the icing on the cake.

Now, get busy on the selling, buying, lending and borrowing front gentlemen and give us something to talk about such as....

    Why did we sell him?
    Why so cheaply?
Why haven't we sold him yet?
We paid how much for him?
    That was a steal?
    Great young loanee.....

.... and many more. personally, I would find it hard to pass too much comment on ins and outs, with a couple of obvious exceptions, without knowing what formation we will be utilising so that I can make an informed guess as to whether the move was a good un or not.
