    Is GT fit again?

Post by MadAmster on Thu 05 Jul 2018, 9:13 am

I ask the question because we all thought he looked overweight last season and was missing the oomph he used to have. The odd still and video I have seen of the Tenerife training camp appear to show a slimmed down version of the GT we last saw play.....

A properly fit again GT would be like a new signing.

    Couldn't agree more.

Both you and I both suggested that George and Craig Forsyth would not be back to their best until this season, so hopefully with an injury free pre season under their belts, both will show that they can be automatic starters this season and show just how good they are.

if he plays more than 10 times I will be amazed - he is made of glass - most disappointing player injury wise since Branko Strupar

Exactly Loughie. Take Hughes as another example. Got the injury, missed just about a whole season. Played most of the following season but wasn't "himself". Went to Watford in the summer, wasn't used early season, quite likley they knew he still wasn't ready, then he got a run of games and was playing really well but got another, different, injury. He is now valued bu both the club and the fans there.

The odd player will come back after a year out almost as good but most need a year of getting back up to speed.

Most of Hughesies matches where he wasn't up to his usual standard was because he was being played out of position, so wasn't likely to play like he used to. It is great to see him rise up at Watford.

Strupar. A brilliant player. I still wonder whether he was actually broken when we bought him or if we broke him........

41 appearances in 4 seasons tells its own story. It also begs the question, what if?

My own thoughts on the matter are that we would have qualified for Europe at least had he been anything like as prolific as his career stats of 202 goals in 376 appearances for club and country......

If George doesn't make it, we could always put in a cheeky bid for Paul Pogba! Some of the defence-splitting through balls he has played in the World Cup have been amazing, almost as if he has been watching that video of George Thorne in his first advent!

Struper was eventually diagnosed properly. Had an abdominal problem. NOT psychological...........

Will Thorne EVER be properly fit again??

I am a bit baffled by the capitalised NOT. I don't recall anybody suggesting that Strupar's problem was psychological. Does the emphasising of NOT, do you think that GT's problems are?

Look at the 3 biggies he has had. 2 torn knee ligaments. 1 double leg break. Nothing psychological there.

.... or have I merely misread your meaning old ewe?
