    Richard Keogh

Post by Loughborough Ram on Tue 31 Jul 2018, 11:05 am

Hated by some accepted or even loved by others, is it time for everybody to just get behind him.

Frank Lampard will be the 6th manager, with the benefit of watching him train and play, to put their trust in Keogh and consider him as a potential captain, yet many on here still consider him to be the main reason that we are still in the championship.

Can 6 managers all be wrong, whilst a handful of vocal fans can see the big picture?

In my opinion he is a good Championship defender. He will make mistakes and those mistakes may cost us points along the way, but the good things he does will win us points at times, which is always ignored by his critics.

Whether it is true or not, I am not sure, bur he certainly SEEMS to play better when not weighed down by the armband.

He has also seemed to perform less of his "rabbit in the headlights" moments when he has a player alongside him in whom he trusts. Someone he doesn't feel forces him to get out of position in order to cover his defensive partner.

I hope he has a great season without the armband and alongside Davies whom we know he trusts.

The big question to ask about Keogh is would you like to see him in the opposition's defence? I wouldn't

He will always get my support when I am at the games.

I hope he has a great full season too. I've been hoping the same for 5 or 6 years now...

Keogh is the great divider of Rams fans.
Don’t know what the numbers are regarding those that have an issue with him and those that don’t.
For me all I expect of a Rams player is that he puts his body on the line for the team.
Keogh is always prepared to do that..not the best defender in the league but a long way from being the worst.
New manager and I’m backing him and his judgment.

He plays better w/out the arm band, he is usually solid but when he screws up he goes all out and makes MAJOR blunders. Along side Davies he seems to have calmed down at least.

It doesn't matter to me what a Derby player's name is - if he commits a monumental blunder I will comment on it on a forum such as this. If they make several costly blunders then I'll be questioning whether they should be dropped or sold on. It will not be me singling out a player just because I don't like them. Hopefully we'll storm the league & everyone will play a blinder all season long. Unlikely I know, we can but dream.

I always thought Keogh was a bit unlucky to cop all the blame for THAT goal. In my view Buxton was just as much at fault for letting the QPR player cross the ball into the danger area.

All season Buxton had been happily booting the ball into the stands at the first sign of trouble, but at the critical moment when he needed to do exactly that he decided to show off his fancy dribbling skills.

Forsyth was also involved in that comedy of errors moment if I remember correctly. Three experienced defenders each made a blunder in the space of 2 seconds and a season that had promised so much fell apart in those two awful seconds. What are the odds of that happening?

It would have taken just 1 of them to NOT make that blunder and it would have been 11 v 10 in extra time......................

What if can be a great game or a frustrating one. That side was PL ready IMO. It simply failed to make the necessary leap to get there.

At last, the true happenings of that fatal goal!
And yet, some people have never stopped having a pop at Keogh ever since.....he has been a very good defender for us, and yes, prone to the odd error, but who isn't!?!

I was discussing this very point  with the learned Bramhall Ram only a couple of weeks ago, whilst sharing a pint, of,  ahem, lemonade.

    I couldn't agree more.

The thing is, I was calling out his errors  for at least all of the 13/14 season.

I don't hate him. He frustrates the hell out of me because somewhere in there is an excellent footballer just waiting to get out...if only he'd listen and learn from his mistakes.

We all make them,  but learning from them is what makes the difference.

Portwood Island doesn't yet have the banners up for a naked run in May.  Let's hope its this year, eh?  Wink

never rated him, sorry, I know he gives his all, and last season was probably the best.

I don't wish the guy ill - I hope he is runner up in the POTY awards (behind our 40 goal striker) as we get promoted.

Do I rate him - no

He is about as good as it gets for a £1M Championship centre half. You can view that either as a compliment or a back-handed one.

I know I shouldn't look at this message board whilst having lunch. The idea of Stockers, fine fellow though he is, doing a solo naked run around Portwood traffic island in Stockport for whatever reason is not one to be encouraged. Trust me on this one.   Afraid

...even if we get automatic promotion this season.

I have been threatening it for 5 years now, on the basis that said DCFC employee remains a mainstay of our defence in a season when we get promoted.

Fear not, fair fellow posters, I am still confident that you will be spared.Thumbs up
