Why didn’t we sell out the Millwall game?

Post by Jimmy Jimmy on Mon 20 Aug 2018, 4:40 pm

Why didn’t we sell out the Millwall game ?

    We average 25,000

Yet we can’t sell 2000 tickets away - we sold 1500

It was never like that 20 years ago

Are we a fading ‘big’ club nowadays

Forest Leicester and Stoke have far better away support

I was in the Millwall main stand and we looked a bit sparse to say the least - not like the Rams support of old by a long chalk

It's not the most hospitable of places to go to be fair.

There are loads of un/in hospitable places nowadays -you only have to walk down your local high street - Millwall are mostly all kids nowadays and I admit they have filthy mouths - so if that’s enough to keep people away - well it’s their call I suppose and I can’t blame them -but the Derby of old would have taken 3000 easy to any ground and it was FAR worse intimidation wise back in the day but wow so exciting .

Check back over the years I bet we haven't sold out for this game since play offs semi.
Not many clubs would sell out their allocation and a bit strange to pick this game as a typical example. Reading away was a sell out? Even with tv coverage.

Yeah I suppose so - but the safety now is second to none so can’t see an issue really. What I don’t like is the mouthy Derby lads giving it the the biggun at placid Fulham in the play semi at Craven cottage (at least 200) - but were no where to be seen on Saturday .

    Don't lets ignore the obvious,

    a) The London trains had been cancelled on Saturday.
    b) The M1 road works are always making it harder to get to London by that route.
    c) It is the worse stadium because of the inhospitable atmosphere and thuggish behaviour.

So the missing 25% that is being complained about is more than likely will be down to travel problems and who we were playing, not because of the football.

.... and it's mid August, holiday time. How many are away on the Costa del Ramos getting a tan?

The first few games, home or away get smaller crowds than you might expect, due to the holiday influence, every year. There will be a few clubs who are up around their normal crowds but there isn't many of them.

it is not that we couldn't sell out an away fixture...just that many in their right mind wouldn't want to go to Millwall.
Also it is still cricket season for us local players so clashes at this time of the season

Millwall don’t go hunting as they used to unless it’s a cat C game like Leeds etc - then a few nutters will make an effort - otherwise it’s just the weedy wannabe kids giving it mouth. In fact I took over the Barry Kitchener stand on my own after flexing my pride and joy - my rather large calf muscles lol
