    Sheffield United clearly.

The others are too close to call.

My take is that there a about 5 mega clubs, 5 or so very big clubs and about 25 big clubs. We, along with all those mentioned are in the latter category. All those clubs grow a bit when doing well and shrink a bit when doing badly. Yet they stay as big clubs.

Sunderland will always be a bigger club than Bournemouth, even if the latter remains two divisions higher for the next decade.

There's a similar, much more detailed list on TalkSport top 30 biggest football clubs.

Derby are 22nd (21st if you omit Celtic).

We need to get promoted to move above Florist.

Historically Wolves over Forest. Even two consecutive European Cups can't make up for that. They have been champions of England three times and finished in the top three on eleven other occasions.

I'd have to acknowledge reluctantly that West Brom are probably a shade bigger club than Derby, but that seems a closer call to me than Wolves over the Scum.

Leeds over Sunderland isn't close. Hate them as we do, the White Shite are one of the half-dozen great clubs of English football history.

You're right, it isn't, in retrospect.

Sunderland have been champions of England six times, F A Cup Winners twice, are 40 years older than Leeds and have a bigger average home attendance since 1919 (the year Leeds were formed). This is their very first year in the third tier of English football, Leeds have had 3 seasons there since 2000.

Leeds have three championships and 1 F A Cup. Sunderland had won 5 titles before Leeds were even in existance.

I always chortle about the fact that Leeds are only 8 years older than my Dad.

    Very interesting facts there !

Sunderland are underrated in the big club stakes and I still can’t see how WBA are bigger than us - something don’t seem right - although their online following is immense- bigger than wolves even .

That's fair. I guess I'm guilty of not giving much weight here to anything earlier than WWII, which if you're making a historical argument is poor logic. I accept correction gladly: Leeds are comparative shite.
