Watched most of it and enjoyed it. We won 0-1. Deservedly so. They had more possession but we looked more likely to score. Just before HT we should have had a nailed on penalty. Ref didn't give it. Early doors 2nd half, Bird had the ball on the left, passed to Martin who returned the favour with a measured pass, Bird hit the cross first time, Whittaker at the far post headed it back to Mitchell-Lawson who volleyed it into the back of the net.

Mitchell in goal. Only beaten by one offside header. Good distribution.
Minkley at RB given a tough time by their left winger but he stuck manfully to his task.
    Wassall was solid.
Bird played CD 1st half and CM 2nd. Looked far happier in MF
Brown had a reasonable game at LB.
Shinnie MF. Good and solid performance.
Holmes got his first 45 minutes of the season. Very busy in both defence and attack. 2 decent shots and one that still hasn't come down yet. Went off at HT to be replaced by Max Hunt who slotted in at CD allowing Bird to take up his usual CM role.
Sibley had another good one but let himself down with a rash challenge late on that saw him booked. He needs to curb his temper/emotions.
Whittaker Good performance on the right
Mitchell-Lawson very good on the left.
Martin. Played well. Played as the target man and he can still play it. He laid off a lot of good passes and flicks. stayed upright and ran an awful lot for him. I was more than pleasantly surprised

In their last League game, against Chelsea they got caught cold at the end and lost. In Soton's last game they were 1-3 down but scored 3 in the last 10 or so to win 4-3. Derby held firm.

    A promising performance.
