How about....... we are due to play Croatia in a World Cup qualifier next Wednesday. Slovenia play similar football and have a similar character/temperament to the Croats. It's a perfect warm up to the big one against the Croats. Win that and we qualify. That will give us the chance to try all sorts of combinations and players in the remaining qualifiers.

......perfect footballing sense (unless half the team get injured)

At this stage given our lead in the table I would rather we be rested.
They are the ones that need to get the results.
Not worth the injury risk IMO.

Watching game now. Is quite entertaining, both sides are playing neat passing football but yet to make a final killer ball to a striker. Penalty was dead soft.

I think it was a useful exercise. They needed to play a game before a big match against Croatia. I think our defence learned a few things, which they can work on, and it was good to see some of the squad players coming on and getting more minutes on the pitch. Defoe looks in great nick every game I've seen him in this season.

I hope the defence has learnt Goblin. Learnt not to stand off players. When Whichevervic scored their goal, both JT and Jolly Jilly were in close proximity but neither was within a yard and both ballside and goalside of him. That is where one of them should have been. Had they been then Whichevervic wouldnt have scored.

I don't blame the players though, this standing off seems to be the order of the day as it happens in internationals, the PL, the FL and lower down the Leagues. It's only when you get down to teams with players in their 30's that they seem to know how to mark a man.

I'm more concerned by Glen Johnson. If we'd played someone decent yesterday we might have lost. The amount of times people get in behind Johnson is scary. He's very good attacking-wise but he doesn't have the same ability as Ashley Cole on the other side to defend well but still get forward.

Lescott isn't good enough for international level and I'm worried we don't have a top goalkeeper to pick from. James is not the answer and Green seems to be struggling for confidence.

Croatia will pick on this on Wednesday but I think we might have enough to beat them with Rooney and Defoe in form and Modric is out.

I do not rate Glen Johnson at all I am afraid.
He never looks like he strikes the ball properly when he kicks it and his back passes always have trouble written all over them.
The sight of Steve Gerrard limping around in the first half yesterday confirmed for me I would rather England had sat at home yesterday with a cup of tea and some fig rolls watching Croatia running around .

Normally we would have played a qualifier on Sat and Weds, so I guess it made some sense to play a friendly instead.

Yeah but why play and risk injury or God forbid the poor lads get tired.
Surely it is an advantage not to have a game if your opponents are playing a few days before.
Those excuses are used by league managers all the time.

If none of you agree with me you are clearly all Forest fans !
