£18 million to go to Villa?! Madness.

I thought his partnership with Gyan was looking good and Sunderland seem to be on the up generally.

Seems a strane one, spends a few years scoring goals for a struggling Sunderland side, then as Sunderland start competing near the top six he wants to jump ship to a struggling Villa side.

Maybe he doesn't like being just another player at a club, perhaps he prefers being a big fish in a small pond as he was at Ipswich and Charlton. The only time he risked having to compete for a place was at Spurs, and look what happened there.

Maybe he's like Roy Keane (and others), his percentage, signing on fee, etc, are too tempting to miss out.

Another season, another club, another big pay day?

But... more to the point, what happened to all his followers on twitter... he had thousands, then woke up one day to find them down in double figures, and hasn't tweeted much since... it's one of the worlds greatest modern mysteries, a real mind bender.

I don't think he's worth anywhere near 18m, and Sunderland can get better than him for that price. They also have much better prospects.

Now holed up in a Birmingham hotel waiting for permission to talk to Villa
If I was Sunderland I would tell him to stay where he was while we cnsider the offer then accept the offer at 11.50pm on the last day of the window

Perhaps he's stuck in a Birmingham hotel waiting for NC to phone him to come and play for Derby :D:

I've heard Bent's going to Villa for 30m - 24m cash and Emile Heskey.

If Bruce gets to see most of this cash he'll be laughing. Around 8-10 million could buy a striker of the same quality of Bent, with another 8 million left to buy another quality player or 2.

    Doesn't £24m + Emile Heskey add up to £20m?

KEVIN PHILLIPS has given Bent a lukewarm welcome to Brum (Villa move confirmed at a fee rising to £24m)

Former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips believes Darren Bent's demand for a move away from the Stadium of Light is motivated by "pure money".

Phillips, 37, who now plays for Birmingham, spent six years on Wearside from 1997 to 2003.

"I'm very surprised. If you are asking me, I think it just boils down to pure money," Phillips told BBC Radio 5 live.

Not sure he will be that happy about losing him regardless of the cash.
Bent has scored goals up at the stadium of shite it was a combination that worked...he has scored on a regular basis for them...you can pay big money for someone and it doest always work out..

Thought I'd recycle rather than afresh.....

I know players who are out of the picture are always held in higher esteem when things aren't going as planned, but where is Darren Bent? Surely you'd have a goal threat like him at least on the bench, has he spat his dummy out like when at Villa about being on the bench? Something isn't right and with Martin going through his drought it makes this all the strange, especially after last night with NO shots on target!

should never have signed him - I know hindsight is 20/20 but he was playing for a contract last season and is a year older

waste of cash (mind you just add him to the list this season - wish I could piss £25m up a wall as easy as Mel)
