That sounds nasty. A few seasons back, under Phil Brown, we played QPR at home. I held my ST in the South West corner at the time, right on the first row of the second tier. Right from kick off there was a young lad, couldn't have been more than two or three years old, racing down from a row behind me to hoist himself onto the (not very high) barrier that separated him from the 25ft drop to the lower tier(corporate seats), right next to my seat . I let it go on for a while as these days it is best not to get involved, but as the crowd became more boisterous it started to look like a situation that could end in floods of tears, so I approached a a steward who, if he had been doing his job properly, should have noticed what was going on. With that, the said steward approached his father and asked him to keep a hold of the boy. Imagine my shock and horror when a few minutes later I was cuffed behind the ear and said father, with the young lad tucked under his arm, came down to rant and rave at me. He informed me that I had ruined his young lads day. I couldn't believe my ears and asked him if the lad went over that barrier whether he thought that might ruin it further. At that point he went for me, along with a few other individuals that were sat around him. I then found myself pinned against the same barrier and balanced precariously over the seats below. If it hadn't been for my mate sat in the next seat I would have gone over, and lord alone knows what would have happened.
Needless to say I left early to diffuse the situation. Monday morning I contacted the Safety Executive at Pride Park to express my concern over what had happened. He informed me with complete disinterest that he knew nothing about it and wasn't particularly interested in following it up. So, with all this in mind, I can't say hearing about this incident surprises me in the slightest. Can only hope that the Lad concerned has not suffered any lasting damage and it hasn't put him off going again.
